Does anyone use the 59 Tweed Bassman for Bass?

I need a small bass amp that packs a punch. Wondering if the 59 Tweed RI Bassman would do it. Does anyone actually use the 59 Bassman for Bass or is
it better for guitar? IF it makes a good bass amp seems like it would serve double duty, which might be a plus.

I think if you use it the way they used them back in 1959, maybe you would do OK. Most people push a bass amp much harder than that these days. I note that you want "a small bass amp that packs a punch". You have a lot of choices of modern solid state bass amps that will do that for you.

People use the '59 RI primarily for guitar, and they are excellent for that.

No, but I've used it as a small P.A. in a pinch ;-)

I just saw a couple of TV Front Tweed Bassman BASS amps at the local music store Saturday. One has a 15" the other a 12" and it said they had tubes. (How many and what purpose, I don't know). Very simple control panel. Next time I'm there, I'll give 'em a test drive.

At low volumes you might be ok. A good friend played bass through his Super Reverb for years, as did Carol Kaye in the studio. Personally I wouldn't do it, I'd get a bass amp.

Um...no, open backs and bass don't mix. I played thru one as a kid that my drummers dad had, and my blonde bandmaster was way better.
