ampeg portaflex

I need some bass player input. I have an old b15n ampeg
it has the original jensen p15n , in good working order.

it needs a cap job , tube are all origenal , so maybe a few new tubes .

Here are my questions
I have a new pair of phillips 7581a`s , I think these will work just fine . any sugesstions on tubes , what brand 6sl7`s are best?

I do want to play this amp so , I am going to pull the p15n and stash it away. what speaker is going to be best in this amp.

I`m a guitar player , so bass rigs arn`t somthing I` know much about .

I do know this is a very cool amp, and iI want to do it up right.

Thanks

Good question, wrong forum!

There are some great amp experts in the Amp Central Station forum here on the TDPRI, you're more likely to get useful info there!

Oh, and what a great amp!

Cheers, Tim

Great Amp

I had one of those when I lived in Colorado. I loved that thing. It really falls into one those 'If only I'd held onto that thing'catagories. By the by, I used to have an old Larry Coryell LP that had a pic of him using one of those too.
Cheers, feojack

I gigged with a B15N in the early 60's - *fabulous* bass amp! And that flip top amp with lighted plexi Ampeg logo is too cool.

Get the cap job and a thorough going over by a tech. The 7581s would probably sound pretty good in there. Not sure about current 6SL7s, you can probably find some NOS ones online fairly reasonable. A Weber California 15 would hold up real nice for bass (specify bass application if you order one). I'm a little surprised that a P15N was stock in there, I thought mostly ceramics were common in those, like CTS, etc. Cool amp, hope it works well for you.

Tom

the speaker is forsure original, My father bought it new he says `65/`66 . so it is an early one.

I`ll be doing the work on it myself, so any thoughts ,or experiance let me know.

now I need to pickup a`55 or maybe a`62 p bass or a tele bass.
