What flatwounds for my Mustang bass?

Hey all,

I picked up a Mustang bass a few weeks ago, and I'm really liking it. I do want to throw some flats on it though--any suggestions? I also vaguely remember reading that regular short-scale strings don't quite fit on the Mustang bass; any truth in this?

Thanks in advance for your input!

I'm quite fond of both Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats and GHS Precision Flatwounds. The GHS are my personal favorite, they're a little brighter and slightly higher tension than the TIs, and they're also a whole lot less expensive!

I put a set on a string-through Musicmaster and had to scrape the silk up about an eighth of an inch to clear the nut, but it was fairly easy to do and the strings otherwise fit just fine...

+1 on the Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flatwounds.

I use them on my 30" scale no name violin hollow body bass, and on my 34" scale Godin solid body.

I've been happy with medium scale D'Addario Chromes on my Mustang.
