The new addition!

I just finished a p-bass build, so I thought I'd share a photo with y'all here. I got a new (bone) nut and a pro set-up, other than that it was just screwing and soldering (and paying).
I know guys like to show off their parts-guitars in a lot of ways, such as lowest-cost, but this is similar to my parts-Teles in that all the parts are exactly what I wanted, regardless of price.
It's an '09 MIM Jazz maple/maple neck (love the tint) with an '09 CAR MIM Precision body, HipShot HB-7 tuners, '51 RI bridge, AllParts pickguard, CTS pots, Switchcraft jack and SD quarter-pounder. It plays pretty great already, maybe because of the set-up, and should get better as it breaks in. All hardware from Darren Riley, body, neck and pg from e-bay and tuners from Best Bass Gear. My friend Vinny gave me the pickup, but that might be subject to change.

Anyway, here's the pic:

I a-fixing to get (back) into bass. As I'm trying valiantly to adhere to my 'no new gear, only used' edict, your thread has flipped a switch to the idea bulb. What did this partso-p-bass run you?

About $650.00. But don't forget, I got the pup for free. So, a little more than a MIM Standard Precision, but with the 1/4 pounder and Hipshots, as well as the Jazz neck.
I guess I also spent another $54.00 on a re-stocking fee when I ordered a CIJ body that didn't fit the Standard (or American Standard) neck. Live and learn.
I actually inquired about purchasing a Custom Shop P-bass with a 1.5 inch neck-width (measuerd at the nut), but they were asking for a ridiculous amount. I'm not sure, but I think they wanted $6000.00 . It was not something I wanted to pursue.

Looks sweet...probably will sound just as good as it looks. Maybe I should have went this route but instead, I bought a MIA Jazz V; it sounds great but I wished it had a tinted neck.

Then I guess I shouldn't tell you about the '62 P slab board I got from a pawn shop for $200.00...

Mr. Popularity...

Lotsa people know Vinny. He does great work on amps, too bad he's backed up so far. Most of his time now is taken up with repairs for stores (GC, Music and Arts, practically every other music store in Suffolk Cty.) on inexpensive low end equipment (I almost said cheap POS's), which is too bad, but that's where the do-re-mi is.
I'm surprized his fame has preceded him as far as TN. I'll have to tell him.

CAR was one of three color choices. It was either that, Lake Placid Blue or a '77 or'78 Natural body. At any rate, no matter what, I would have used everything else, including the pickguard.
I actually ordered a LPB body from Stratosphere, but it was from a CIJ '62 RI, and the MIM neck didn't match up with that body. OK, lesson learned, plus I had to pay a $54.00 "restocking" fee. The MIM CAR body works perfectly.
Hopefully anybody reading this who doesn't already know that some (I still don't know how to tell which - and this is my third build) Japanese bodies and necks are not compatible with MIM and MIA ones will be saved this hassle.
