Got my SX SPB-57 short scale yesterday
I've been play bass longer than guitar but still have my first bass: a blue Ibanez GSR200. Great first bass. But when I started playing six strings, I realized how much better suited my hands are for shorter scales. Hence my recent purchase from Rondo. I got their 2 tone burst short scale P-bass copy. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. The neck is a little heavy on the yellow, but other than that, the finish is amazing. I must have gotten luck cuz the bass was pretty nicely set up right out of the box. Wasn't in tune, but once I tuned it up, the intonation was dead on except for the D string (which just needed a half a turn). The action was a bit high, but I lowered that down a bit at the bridge saddles. Plugged it into my Crate BX50dlx and played for like half an hour. GREAT BASS. The neck (despite looking like it has Jaundice) feels amazing and the fretwork is better than a few Fenders I've played and the tuners are surprisingly good. I was expecting to have to replace the pickup, but I don't think I'm going to. Not right away at least. It sound great stock. The only thing I'm not super crazy about is how huge the headstock is in comparison to the body. But that might just be me going from this:
![]() to this: ![]() In comparison to other basses I've played as far as feel goes, it ranks 3rd behind one of my friend's American Fender Jazz and a different friend's MusicMan Stingray. Thinking about converting it to string through, but I think I'm just going to leave it stock right now. Worth way more than the $110 I paid for it. Now I gotta find an excuse to buy another SX...

I recently bought a SX 62 P/J for my Son to take to college. Cheap enough not to fuss and loose much sleep over if it turns up missing, or whatever.
After I futzed with it for a day or two - filed smooth the fret ends, lowered the saddles a bit, loosened up the truss a hair, it now plays like a million bucks, capable of low action without buzz. The neck is kinda chunky and the stock split p pickup is throaty and clear. (I don't care much for the j bridge pup tone, tho). Hardly any dead spot action on the g string. A decent p bass for about $115.00 shipped, after the set-up and fret dress.
