"They, they, they, work - we could blow this place apart if we wanted to." Those guys were so cool. They used to play a place where I worked and I was ready to hate 'em but I couldn't. They were just so good at what they did! My wrists still get soar looking at the guitars at their knees... OK. Nobody asked me. And I hijacked again...

I saw this thread and just had to sign in. This is a pic of one of my friends playing live in our Punk band with my vintage yet bashed up 56 P-bass in 1986. This pickguard had been hacked up, and the Fender decal on the headstock was messed up. It was painted metal flake purple, and the purple was all chipping off, showing the silver undercoat. The pickup was replaced with an original Dano pickup I swiped from a wreck.

One of My bands opened for Mike last month and I asked Him about it,and no, it has not found it's way home BUT His attitude about was really surprising ,he said that the bass had super long strap button screws that would never come out and the week before it was stolen one of them popped out so He said He felt the guitar "wanted to be free"!!! whats even more amazing , people really came through in support and at the end of the tour He had been gifted not one but THREE cool vintage gibson basses! I dont remember the models but e.b. whatevers and He is totally happy and said He hopes some kid is rippin it up on His bass, Mike Watt is My new guru.....what a Guy . |

Saw him with fIREHOSE in 1992 or 1993. He was playing a place in South Dakota, doing a 50 states in 50 days tour. He popped a string off his big Thunderbird bass, and while he was changing strings, he's standing off the riser, with me on one side and Greg Norton on the other, while George Hurley was taking a drum solo. He looked at me, nodded up at George as if to say "Isn't he cool?" And he was, and it was.

my punkiest basses...
This was mine for the longest time... a red Taiwanese TCS resprayed Ford Taunus blue:
![]() A friend of mine had this Hondo Fame bass which he used frequently when he was in a local punk garage rock band. ![]() After that band quit it was unused for some 8 years or so, with a broken nut and missing string. Then I took it and made it into this: ![]() The original owner has mellowed down a bit now, and has hit some hard times. So recently I presented him with his old bass again. Now he uses it as recording bass for his demos;.

No no no no, you guys are all wrong. Here comes the punkest bass ever. A crap Harley Benton that cost just 100€ got run over by a truck(!) Of course this has nothing to do with the fact that I threw it under a truck running by :D
Believe it or not, it does still work. I'm sorry for the bad quality of photos

Motley Drama
![]() That was mine. My first bass, personally repaired (with help of plywood and acrylic paint) Defil Lotos, a bass from the People's Republic of Poland era. Sounded really awesome, but the neck was extremely curved. Quite punky. As for now, I'm looking for a new neck to give a second life to this great body. One of the PUs is still working, so maybe I'll incorporate it into the body too. But this time, something more tele-ish...
