Yea, I'm goin' back..

..to GK.

Playin' out live in a band mix they really cut through in a funky room. Outdoors, a GK head really excels tonally through my Ampeg 1x15 cabs.

Ive owned a 700rb-ll, 800rb and a 1001rb-ll over the years. This time it will be a 400 version, which I believe will have plenty of power for my needs, since these things are so under rated, power wise.

Cool!

If I wasn't so damned happy with my AMP BH-420 (AMP standing for Amplified Music Products Corp, a short-lived company formed by some guys from Acoustic who went on to form SWR and Eden), I'd have bought myself a G&K long since!

Yep, GKs are hard to beat! Their heads are awesome and their cabs are good too. In fact, I'm gonna be pulling the trigger on a GK cab myself.

Have fun!

I'm always on the lookout for a 700RBII - they sound great, have tons of power, and I all-around love what they do. Unfortunately, I'm also cheap so I haven't got one yet, but my day will come!

the GK RB amps really have it when it comes to un-fussy and bullet proof. I ran one or the other of my 1001 RBII's and an old 400 Rb I had around for a while with every cab imaginable (shy of an 8x10) and never found a match I couldn't make work... Other amps have passed through here where that was definately not the case.

I'm off the GK wagon at the moment. i really can't afford to have two big rig's and an older but mint WT-800a presented itself in a moment of weakness. Amazing amp that is ... but there will be another GK about the ranch somewhere down the road no doubt. Probably one of the new little ones as they seem to have the bugz worked out.

Hey Tim, I think that the Thunderfunk was designed after the AMP amp.

Sure was!

Thunderfunks are great amps, but I got my AMP for a fraction of the price, from eBay. Of course, buying a 20 year old amp is always a gamble, but so far, so good!

I'm not a bass player by any stretch of the imagination, but have owned several nice basses and a few rigs. I've still got my G-K Backline 2x10 combo. My bass player uses it for rehearsal, and everything he plays thru it sounds great! It's a kickin' little combo, and if you add a 1x15 to the bottom of it, makes such a sweet sounding rig.

I have to say that the only thing he's owned that sounded a wee bit better was one of the Acoustic stacks= 200 watt head, 1x15 + 4x10 cabs. That was one of the nicest, punchiest sounding rigs he has owned. Don't know why he keeps trading around? He's worse than I am about Teles!! LOL

Went to GC this past weekend (Father's Day) and bought the G-K BLX 1x15 cab to go under my 210 combo. The new BLX 1x15 cabs are front ported, not rear ported as earlier models, FYI. Sounds VERY sweet!

I have 700rbII and it is a good rig. But, my Accugroove cabinet is having a tough time with a low B on a 5 string so I wonder if the BLX 115 will handle to the job. I did try an Ampeg cab that was a 115 and it sounded pretty good.

Which Accugroove cab ? Are you pushing the low bass or Contour controls up ? Active Bass and boosting the low's at the bass. Regardless of the cab, you can still ask it to do stuff it isn't capable of with enough EQ tweaking ... I have a hard time imaginging that BLX 115 being able to keep pace with either a Tri 112 and definately not a Tri 115. Those AG cab's are tuned way deep. I love 'em but way too much cash for me...

I've heard a local guy (Dave Captien) runing his 5 string upright and 6 string David King through a Tri 112 and it has no issues with a low B at all. DC is at the top of the call list for upright guys in the Northwest. Apparently Dave is not quite ready for the 21st Cetury Webby thing but here is a like to his Signature bass model anyway ... Dave's Sig bass love it or leave it, not that many folks get a sig bass...

I saw Damien Erskine running through a Tri 115 and while I recall that he was playing a 4 his low end was incredibly thick and punchy. I can't imagine that cab having an issue with a B at normal gig volumes. he was definately getting into house/dub territory in a 300 seat room with very little FOH support. I was iin the booth at the FOH console for a bit as I know the guy who was mixing and DE's channel was just about off... DE's rig was an Alembic F1X pre, QSC power and he had an EHX MiniQtron sitting on his amp. He is such a great player. If you get the chance to see him - just do it... Link to Damien's Site

Tri 112. I will need to check on the Contour control but I do believe I have it set at 1 or 2. The bass setting is at 1:00 and the bass boost is off.
I will tweak around with the controls a little bit more before doing anything drastic.
