show me ur bass rigs!!!

Hey guys. usually i post in the tele forum but i thought i'd get a thread started in here. I wanted to show u all a pic of my dad's new bass rig..this has been his life long dream to own an ampeg amp.

story behind this is...3 months ago we were gigging with our band pop's was playing his am. deluxe 5 string jazz bass thru his behringer 450 head, dbx compressor and behringer 4 10's cabinet. Allthough his tone was ok still just wasnt there if ya know what i mean!! So as we always do we went down to our local music store just hangin out wasting a day and having fun, one of our friends that work there said he had something in the back my dad may like to look at.....

there she stood...1 month old used my dad's dream rig...an ampeg svt-4 pro, furman smp+ conditioner, korg dtr 2000 tuner all of which was in a road runner anvil case..all hooked to a 6-10 ampeg classic cabinet!!! and for less than half retail price...a dream come true..now i cant pull him away from it and he is no longer searching for his tone...

I've got about ten or so basses... so it varies from heavily modified P's and J's and Tele's to an old Gibson RD Artist.

Markbass Little Mark 250 & FMC Performer 212 cab - best sounding, yer most lightweight bass rig I ever played...

Don't have a good pic of my bass here, just this old "group shot" (it's an 80s MIJ Precision, with an extra Bartolini J-pickup at the bridge):

Fender Bassman 100, all original; plus cheapo Session P-bass copy with DiMarzio pickup. I have more basses, but this is my main playing bass at the moment. That Bassman has the best bass sound EVER... in our rehearsal rooms there is an Eden Nemesis 700, and a Hartke... and they sound like crap compared with this.

Hey, strangbender, that is a drooling, nice rig!

I haven't played bass on stage much (yet!), but this is my rig:

into:

One line to the PA, and one line to the amp:

Works great on small, to medium stages!

My G-K rig

Just went to GC over the weekend and bought the G-K 1x15 BLX cab. Got the 20% coupon off the website, so I got it new for $159.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the new III model is front ported, not rear ported; so I'm happy with that!

My European rig,a 70s German Maquis GV 150 ? Originally a hybrid,I replaced the transistor preamp with a homemade Bassman preamp . Two 1985 JCM 800 4x12 bass cabs to round it out

Back at home,Bassman 135 w/ 6x10" cab ,re- baffled & re-grilled from a tall 2x12" cab

outa focus 1980 SvT ,we pull her out for the bigger gigs, but that Fender 6x10 cab handles this head very well

That's way too cool. How does it sound?

Here's mine, shot with my ultra crappy cameraphone deal. Just a cheap SX on top of a GenzBenz M-line 200 2x10 combo. Yes, I know I'm probably foolish to set the stand on top of my amp... I just did it for the shot.

This is my guitar/bass rig, Princeton Reverb on top for my Beloved Telecaster, and an AMP BH-420 (ancestor to the Thunderfunk amp) into a Steelsound 2x10 cab for Hoss, my mutant Telecaster Bass...

That's a little beast!

I use GK stuff now. I have a BL600 Head, two BLX 210 CABS, it's the little rig that could.

I generally use Peavey amps. MARK IV head, 215 cabs.

Peavey 115 combo with 210 cab.

Centurion head with 10's as well.

Digitech effects and compressors. And a killer octave under pedal. I'll never tell who makes these.

For the money, you can't go wrong with G-K! My 210 combo has the same head/power as your BL600 (just re-packaged into the combo).

I'm not after mega stage volume and with the direct out, you don't have to be. With a 5 string/Low B, this set up sounds very sweet! If I were going for a Head/Cab set up, it would probably be the same as I have; A BL600, the 2x10 BLX and the 1x15 BLX. To me, it's just the best "all around" set up for bass.

For the quiet sensitive jazz gig...

Floor synth for the blond A4/SA bass

For when things just might get outta hand ...

waiting for handles and a gallon of duratex for the bare cab. Grille is on the way from Reliable. Eminence 3015's tuned at about 50 hz. Bracing is ... too beaucoup! Marine Plywood for the carcas and Baltic Birch for the speaker baffle. They got game as it were, yes they do. Nice and light too! The WT-800 delievers 300 to each cab at 8 ohms. The Eden is a stereo head. There is an electronic crossover and a balance control built in so it can biamp or not, use the balance control to control the relative power delivered to each cab. So ...

I'm building another cab that will house a 6.5" cone driver (visible above the jazz rig in a test baffle) and a 3015 that will stack with these. That one will replace the bottom cab which was a shoddy build by comparicon. I'll end up using the onboard crossover and the 15's will get around 400 watts for about 800 on down, the 6.5 will have 300 on tap but won't ever see anywhere near that. There just isn't that much energy up there. I have this blues rock thing under way and my little jazz rig, much as I like it is just not enough ...

Basses are
2006 Godin A4/SA RMC piezo pickups with synth access. Drive the Rolanf GR-20 very nicely. Fender tape wounds.
1994 Godin Acoustibass with LR Baggs piezo element - go ahead. Play where's waldo with the thumbrest ... (yuk, yuk) TIJF's
1994 MIJ 75 RI J, Vintage Vibe split coils, TI Super Alloy rounds, Graphtech saddles help to tame the Rounds, Ash and maple combination as do the split coils. Great job on the pickups by Pete Biltoft!
1998 MIJ 62 RI Vintage Vibe 5% overwound, Alnico magnets, TIJF's.

The Acoustibass and 62 RI get the vast majority of the playing time. The A4 and 75 RI are more aggressive so maybe that will change with the new project.

If you do any work in an acoustic context - the Acoustibass is nothing short of amazing. The A4 is good but the Acoustibass just has it.

Calm before the storm...

After setting up, before sound check (and a change of clothes ).

I run the attenuated (above 8kHz) output from the X2 into the WT550 powering the 4-ohm 2X10 GoliathIII Jr., and the full-range output from the X2 into the WT800B and the Schroeder 410L.
Nice and light modular rig, louder than heck, with great punchy tone out of the Custom-made (by me!) P-bass w/ SD 1/4 lb.
1600 watts (of which I use only a fraction), six 10" speakers (two of which are sort of horn loaded), clear as a bell w/ projection for miles.
Of course it would be better if I had an equipment crew, or PA support (or both!), then I wouldn't get so sweaty, but at least each piece is light enough for me to carry by myself.
