A Tele Bass to me is still the '72 style one I had, Tele style headstock, P-bass shape to a slab body, unbound maple fretboard, single humbucker at the neck, single volume and tone controls, finger rest (which I moved for a thumb rest), and bullet truss rod.
My heart skips a beat just thinking about it. What glorious thump it had with flatwounds. I should get off my ass and build one. Mike Bruce |

I really don't like that model. Funny I saw it on MF earlier today and then saw this post. To me the coolest thing about all the TB models I have seen is the simplicity...too many knobs and switches for me. Then again I have been throwing around the idea of doing a 2-pup TB with multiple knobs and such so who am I to talk.

butt-ugly and mud buckers to boot ? Yikes - what did that poor P Bass do to annoy the CS designer guy - back over his puppy ?

Too many puppies I think... Let's face it - a Tele Bass was the glorious first reissue of the first and coolest bass ever designed - simple, amzing tone and a design masterpiece. There's a reason why 51-54 P's cost so much...and why 57-66 P's cost almost as much... But I know that this concept will probably really grab some guys, and of course, they're entitled to dig it...I just hope none of them are wearing that thing if they fall into a pool, coz that bridge is taking them straight to the bottom! |

While I enjoy the simplicity of the original Pbass and subsequent Tele Bass (had a '68 that was incredible) I would still love to try this one out. With the dual 'buckers it could have some interesting sounds blended. Can't say I like the looks of it, but I'll try just about anything once.

You know, it MIGHT have worked if they kept the Tele body shape (with arm and belly cuts) and JB headstock, with a walnut finish. THEN they would have had that Tele Deluxe look they looked like they were going for. The binding is OK, but the blocks have to go!
I agree...it just looks "wrong". I like the idea though.

Awful.
Blue. Historically incorrect. No doubt absurdly overpriced. I had an original Telecaster bass, the reissue-'51. It was OK. This isn't, just another example of FMIC's relentless-novelty marketing model in their race to exhaust brand equity. Anyone else sick of this in American retail? Hands?

If they're asking $6k for them, I doubt that they made more than five!

just played a squire tele bass today. what is it with the squire basses? I've been smitten by two in the last couple of week.
the one today was an unbound maple neck, single neck humbucker, one volume, one tone. The owner of the store plugged me into a mesa 115, and that setup sounded really, really good. If I hadn't just come from the auto garage where I had to spend 528 dollars to get my car to pass inspection ... |

Well, that's good, but remember these CS monstrosities are often concept pieces for production instruments, so if you send them a link to this thread you may save the world from seeing these mongrels taking up wall space at GC in 2011.

Is it? On my screen it looks like a variation of Sherwood Green. If it's blue I take back what I said about liking the color, which leaves me with nothing for this bass.
Yeah - that bothers me too. I wouldn't mind the historical inaccuracies so much if they looked good together... |

$102 :)
on the topic of the original post: I do like the color, the body shape, the head and neck (although the inlays are a bit much). I hate the pickguard and the excess of knobs. I'm neutral on the bridge. $6k? That is insane. I don't think I've spent $6k on gear - total - in my whole life and I've gone through a lot of stuff (and still have a lot of stuff) |

I really like the whole thing. The pickguard really works for me, I find the lines extremely pleasing and I like the blocks too. It's a bold design, it would look lame with dots. I'm really hoping that Fender bring this out as a standard production model. There has been a lot of interest on some of the bass forums about this, with the obvious gripes about the 6$$$.
I want one. |
