Just an extra bass lying around

... and am not sure what to do with it. I really don't want to sell it, as it is my first bass (sentimental!). I was thinking of modding it, so i just need some input. In multiple senses... the reason I bought a new bass guitar was that it wasn't worth getting it repaired for a broken input jack (and I wanted to get a Jazz ). So I was wondering, as a person with no experience modding guitars, would I have many problems doing the following:

Replace input jack (or just all the electronics)
Replace pickguard
Replace pickups and
Maybe replace the bridge

There's a pic of the bass here (the P bass at the bottom) http://www.tdpri.com/forum/bass-plac...g-dilemma.html

...and what i want it to look similar to. http://www.squierguitars.com/product...tno=0301074506

Replacing the jack is really easy. Replacing the pickups is easy - assuming you or someone you know can handle a soldering iron - given where you live, you would be well served to learn if it isn't already a skill in your bag o' tricks ... The pick guard and bridge may be problematic. Screw hole patterns are not standard for ither ite. Only way to be sure it's going to be ab exact fit is to send the original out for duplication. Rodger at Jeanies pickguards will do that ... The bridge is probably standard spacing but you never really know. Unless it is really a problem (cosmetic's don't count as a problem in my view of things ...) I wouldn't bother swapping that. I really wouldn't bother with the PG either just to go from white to red but thats me.

Anyway - do the input jack repair and maybe a pickup swap if you're so inclined and get that bass back into service.

Pickguard changes are easy, just know that it might not fit. My P-bass copy has funky routs, so they're not a perfect fit. You can order one, and if it doesn't work, sell it and not be out very much $$.

Ok, so now it comes to this question; What's the difference between the 250k pots and the 500k pots?

Oh goodness, please tell me you aren't a Fall Out Boy fan? Hopefully you just like the look of that other bass, because the band aren't very good at all.

Anyway, I wouldn't sell that if I were you, that bass looks great. I think modding it could be worth it, but I have no experience with modding so can't really help.

ahahaha! Yeah, I'm no Fall Out Boy fan, I just like the look of the red tortoise on black... honest! When I first saw it, I didn't realize it was a Pete Wentz Signature, and that logo thing on it is an instant deal breaker for me. I just wanted to do some modding to my old P Bass, and like I said, like the look of the red on black.

I fear sale is not a real option, you won't get much, but replacing those parts is easy.
The bridge is probably ok. Controls, 500k will make it somewhat brighter in tone, is this desirable.
Me, I'd start by replacing the jack and the strings and giving it a jolly good set up.

If the PG fit's well - then best bet for cloning it is to send it to a pickguard cutter - there are just too many variations outhere ... I have a tort on black J - I don;t find it nearly as attractive as white on 3T burst or White on Teal of Black to 3T burst - oddly enough it's the bass that most visitiors seem to grab first. Apparently I'm in the minority cosmetically.
