Styx Bassist
Watched Styx in concert on the Direct TV concert channel last. The band played with the Contemporary Youth Orchestra . . . I think it was a couple of years ago . . . but one of the basses that Ricky Phillips played . . . a 5 string Tele bass . . . I WANT ONE . . . I'm such a fan of Telecaster guitars, this would be a great match to my Teles . . .

Jeeze, that band sets my teeth on edge!
Wouldn't mind a picture of the bass, though... Tim

They didn't play Mr Roboto, Babe or Come Sail Away, you know their tired material. This show was actually very good. The keyboard player (Dennis Gowan) sung the song "I Don't Need No Doctor", which was a treat. Dennis DeYoung is not with them anymore.
I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least.

That's actually Lawrence "Larry" Gowan, well-known to those of us up here in The Great White North.....
Coupla good albums in the '80s, backed by most of Peter Gabriel's touring band. Styx still does a pretty good touring show, but their latest albums aren't that great...at least they don't do the really sappy stuff anymore. |

Yea, thanks I stand corrected. He is a great keyboard player and an exceptional singer, IMO.
The last couple of songs in this show the original bass player Chuck Pannazzo (spelling) played and the band sounded very solid with his P bass and a pick.
