"Road King" kingbass....DogHouse... Check it out.

I know this is a strange question for the TDPRI, i always get great answer's and views here... so I'm hoping there is some Upright players (Or in your Band etc.) here. Is this thing a deal? What do these go for "Used Street value"? also , any idea what they go for New, I'm sure way less the "Retail"? The only reason I am interested is I'm in Austin (same city the bass is in) So I would be able to play it first etc. I just don't know what a good deal would be on this model...(I'm a guitar player). thanks for any and all info. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=16222

It does look like a good buy but do you need to spend that much money on a curiosity?
You could spend a third of that money and sell on for a profit if you didnt get on with it.
I reckon you have been struck down with the curse of ebay!

I'm really surprised a good upright bass does not cost more..... They do. a real good "solid" upright can go for $8,000 to 10,000....

I just spoke to a "dealer" in Dallas ... he said they sell for about retail! they can't come off the price ... He told me "a black roadking with no pickup will be about $2, 900".

So it does look like a good deal, if some one wanted that bass, I just might? From what I hear , they wont sound like a $10,000 bass... but they are tuff , sound and play great.
I just don't want to mess with "import" low end stuff. Resale can be real tuff with something like that.

I love the sound of "slap bass" , I may not need one?

I've been looking at Engelhardt uprights for around half that price. Good quality plywood basses, made in the USA (Engelhardt bought the old Kay bass factory in Chicago when Kay went out of business). Not to say that bass isn't both wonderful and a good price, just that I can't swing that kinda cash!

Cheers, Tim

If you can raise the cash and want the bass badly enough then go for it.
A good quality upright will only increase in value so you cant really lose.

King Bass Value

Badfish,
I would check with Bob Gollihur over on the Dudepit.
He is a wealth of double bass info.

Thanks for all the info. and the link.... the bass is still for sale, and it turns out to be an older "RoadKing" but still a USA made bass. $1800 still the price (no pickup).. I thought about the englehard "swingmaster" I dont want to buy new.... I will lose cash if i sell it .

I really would like the bass (so much, i stuck my b-bender on Ebay ..ouch) screw it, I still have two other Tele's.

That link is great.. loads of info.
