Got an Ibanez Bass
Its a cheapie - GSR200. I'm a guitar player but want to learn some bass. I think that would be a good investment in time. Pretty amazing quality for $200 and active electronics. Agathis body. Neck feels real good.

I have one of those, a lefty, bought it mainly 'cause its red. ;) And inexpensive. Didn't need it(I have 30 basses) but it played/sounded great and was a good deal so...

Got it at GC. The salesman who helped me out is a bass player. He was sitting in the bass area playing his own personal bass - a $5,000 Warwick! When I told him I wanted a cheap bass he directed me to the Ibanez. He personally prefered it over a Squire so I took the advice.

I have yet to figure out why the bass boost knob is smaller than the rest.

I have the identical bass except I bought it as a scratch-n-dent from Musician's Friend and the active electronics don't work. Not that that mattered much to me at the time, or now since I just have it for bangin' around on or doing a little recording every now and then. Like you I am a guitar player mainly.
But since you bring it up, are the actives worth getting fixed??

Love mine
I have the SRX 300, and love it. I have had a Rickenbaker and an American precision over the years, and the Ibanez plays as smooth as either of them, and is much lighter. Sounds just fine to my ears too. Till I find somethin that plays and sounds better ,that I can afford, I'm keepin it.

the pot shaft was bent like someone hit it with a hammer, but the knob still turns. I put a fresh 9v battery in, but nothing happens. I still like how the bass sounds and plays.
I've bought scratch-n-dent stuff from MF in the past that was completely unplayable and had to be sent back, but you just call them and they send you a shipping label so it doesn't cost you anything. But in this case I was willing to live with it. So, how much better does the sound get?

I had a Rickenbacker 4001 bass when I was a teenager, but decided to go for guitar instead. In my 20's I played bass in a band for a while and used a Peavey. In my 30's I had an Epiphone 5-string bass for a while. Now I'm in my 40's and this Ibanez fits the bill for just about anything I think I might want to do.
