Yep. The bodies are identical, except for the pickup rout, and the pickguard does a nice job of hiding excessive routing! Here's a Musicmaster body that's about to become a Mustang body:

Cheers, Tim

I've posted that picture recently, probably in another thread. I don't recall if I had a thread on it, though. It's a 1973 Musicmaster Bass body, and I have a 1973 Musicmaster Bass neck for it (I actually have two of them, one is on Pinky, the bass I usually gig).

It's going to be black (always did like black with MOTS pickguards!).

Cheers, Tim

Tim did you ever finish that bass?

Tim,
I was just wondering if you ever finished your Mustang/Music Master bass project. If so, do you have any pictures of the finished guitar?

Not yet! I got sidetracked by a few other projects. I think this will be something to do now that the tourist season is over and I'll have more evenings at home...

Cheers, Tim

Good luck ever finding a genuine Mustang bass bridge. Unique to that model and it seems absolutely no one sells an aftermarket. Maybe someone in Japan? I don't check the bay for 'em but don't imagine they come up often and are probably spendy when they do.

I'm going with a regular P-Bass style bridge, since the body isn't drilled for string-through anyway.

Cheers, Tim

Yeah, I figured you knew about the bridge, Tim. It was just a FYI for the others who've had this thought. I've had it too.

Basspartsresource.com have 4-saddle Musicmaster bridges in stock - looks the part more than the standard P-bass bridge does...

Basspartsresource.com's Musicmaster bridge is a Fender replacement part and is intended for use on a string-through body. I've used one after modifying it for top-loading. The mod is a bit crude but functionally it is fine.
