Hey Axmaker, would the reissue be the same? or would we need an original?

The 51-54 precision is the same shape as later precisions, just without the contours.

Tracing photo of Tele Bass Head

I'm cutting my own Saga neck as a 51 Pbass.

So far i've taken care of the edges of all of the frets now i'm getting ready to cut the head stock. I just took a picture of this Mike Drint headstock to get the shape right.

Hey everybody,
I am going to start a pine precision body soon. Does anybody know of an internet source for the dimensions to a p -bass neck cavity? I have the length and depth, I don't have the angle of the sides or length of the fret where it joins the body in order to do the trig. A dxf would be great too :-).
Also, is the early 4 pole piece pickup the same size as a strat rout?
Thanks.
Marty

The old single coil Precision pickup is slightly larger in all dimensions than a Strat pickup. You can find the specs on Seymour Duncan's site.

Offhand I don't know of an internet source for the neck pocket geometry. If you're looking to make your own template, see jwells' photo tutorial here. You can also clamp and align that way to locate the neck directly on the body without making a template.

Thanks Dave, I'll check out the Duncan Site. I uncovered a modern p bass pickguard so that will help with a few things. Templates are not a problem for me, but thanks for the link just the same.

***Update***

we have finished the transfer moch-up, and should have the drawings for the body, and pickguard this week. i'll post both with 51 neck cavity, and
with a cavity that will take a standard p-bass neck.

when we finish these, we'll move on to the neck.

Hi!
I'm from Sweden and would really like to take part of the drawings. Are you gonna post them here, or should I look for drawings somewhere else?

...just curious if there has been any developments on the body front? I am "house sitting" a few power tools right now for a few weeks and would love to get a 51 bass project started.

Thanks for fighting the good fight axmaker!

BTW - were you the guy who bought that crazy looking LP Special with the weird braces on the back as shown in your sig? I remember when that was on ebay a while back.
