Make your own pickguard.

My Tele is a mutt. The thing has been routed four times so the knob cavity is about 50% longer than the original space. However, I was able to cover it with a Tele guitar plate. Except for the switch slot which taunts me it's worked out ok.

I figured I'd make my own pickguard since the pickups for this bass are near the bridge and not in the neck position. Using the 51 reissue pickguard I could start with that and improvise a little. However, when I went to Home Depot to find a sheet of plastic nobody knew what I was talking about. First I was sent to where they have plastic sheets, drop cloths for painting. Then I was sent to where they have Lucite hard plastic sheets for replacing broken windows.

What I want is a colored plastic, preferably white, that is about the same width as a regular pickguard. What should I ask for since my attempts so far have proven futile?

You could try...

Ordering a blank from one of the pickguard mfg. Co's like WD, or Jeannie.

'slaper.

Stew Mac is the place to go for the do-it-yourselfer, but WDmusicproducts.com will cut you one from a traced pattern.
