Tele pickup

Looking for a humbucker that will fit the neck rout for a 77 Tele bass. Are there any dealers online that have just the humbuckers for sale?

If you can't find any, try the Dimarzio Will Power. which is the neck pickup for the Yamaha Billy Sheehan signature model, it should fit in perfectly.

Humbugkers

Is this an active or passive pickup? I can only use a passive pickup. Thanks for the info.

Sheehan hates batteries in his instrument so it's safe to assume that it's a passive.

The DiMarzio Will Power is passive, but it does not fit the Tele Bass rout. It fits a Gibson EB-series rout. There are no aftermarket pickups that fit the Tele Bass HB rout.

Humbug

Thanks again for the info. I just picked up my '77 Tele bass (I think the body is an older Tele bass) from the tech yesterday. He installed Bassline P Bass pickups in the routing that was done near the bridge.
This Tele was routed three times with two of the routs now filled in. I now have a gaping hole for the original humbucker placement near the neck. I will probably just cover it over with a pickguard and just depend on the Basslines. Or I could use it was fingerbowl for gigs at the supperclub.
My '68 Tele has its original pickup removed and a Gibson (EB) pickup installed there. I guess I will have to chisel out the humbucker spot on the '77 Tele if I ever want to put in another humbucker.
Question, what year did they stop putting in ferrule in the Tele bass and use the standard Fender bridge? I thought it disappeared with the humbucker Teles, but in the 50 Years of Fender there is a 1972 Tele with a humbucker, but it still has the through the body bridge?

My '77 and all the second edition Teles I have ever seen came with the original '51 style 2-saddle string-through-body bridge. Seems to me I read somewhere that the last year ('79) they did away with this, but I'm not sure.

What are the dimensions of the rout now? If it's the size of a regular guitar humbucker, you do have a few options.

String thru body

For what it's worth, my 78 Tele doesn't have string thru.

Through the body.

Sounds like the '79 edition was the first one with the regular Fender bridge. For some reason I thought it came along with the humbucker Teles.

Where can you get bridges for through the body basses?
Parts Is Parts doesn't seem to have them. Does somebody sell parts for the Sting basses?

You can order a 2-saddle bridge from the '51 Precision or Sting basses through a Fender dealer. It's not an accessory, it has to be ordered from the parts department. Wilkinson now has a 2-saddle replacement bridge, it can be ordered through an Allparts dealer.

I believe - but I'm not 100% sure - that the American Series bridge (4 saddle string thru) and the American Deluxe bridge (4 saddle string thru or top mount) will fit the existing hole pattern. Either of these can be ordered through a Fender dealer.

The Hipshot A and B and the Gotoh 206 are string thru but I'm pretty sure you would have to drill additional mounting screw holes.
