Played the last gig with the band.

Well, after almost two and a half years, we called it quits. We hadn't played together since our New Year's show, and the band broke up shortly after a band meeting. I was relieved when it happened, because I felt myself wanting different things. We decided to play one more show four months later for which we had two rehearsals. The rehearsals went so well, a part of me thought maybe we should play a couple of more shows. Well, then we played our last show, and it was pretty clear that the right thing to do was to disband. There wasn't anything to really get one's panties in a bunch, but the issues were still there, and the writing was on the wall, I think for everyone. Despite the drama from a couple of months prior, we all left on good terms, and I remain good friends with the drummer. In fact, I'm going over to his place for drinks and cigars after work.

The best part about this whole thing is it frees me up to do what I want to do, and that is to start writing songs again, recording and doing some solo acoustic stuff. I already miss playing in a full band, but I'm expecting the acoustic thing to evolve into a full band. I haven't been this excited about music since I joined my previous band.

I don't have any delusions of granduer, but I'm really looking forward to the future. Thought I would share. More to come!

Sounds like you made the right choice. I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised when you look around for the right people to hook up with ..

An ending is just the opportunity for a new beginning. Best of luck.

This is a mirror image of just what I went thru with one exception...I'm not looking to be in a band situation ever again. Although I do miss the full band sound and flexibility of trading solos n stuff.....Im going solo only now.

Good luck on your solo gig!

I'll tell ya, it's not easy being in a band. I've always said its harder to be in a band than to be married. There is something so liberating about it being just you singing and playing an acoustic guitar. I love it! There's also nothing better than when a song you wrote comes together, but then again, you have to hope people like it.

Good, sounds like you know already where you want to go from here.
I remember that every time the bands broke up, I was rather disgusted for quite a while.
Glad you are more positive about it.

Don't know about you, but after each breakup I radically changed my musical direction, I've even done some electronica at one point ...
It took a couple breakups to complete the 360°

I don't think this is a radical change, but it's definitely a change. It's nice to do my own thing.

I did get a call yesterday to audition/play for a band called Butt Naked. I'm not kidding. While it was flattering, and a guy I know gave them my number, they're a party/cover band, and that's just not what I want right now.

Happened to me too. we played our last gig in Dec. I have been spending my time just tring to improve my playing. But I have been getting the itch to jam. Where I live that is not easy. But I have found a guy that does a solo act that i'm going to start working with. No intentions of tring to make it a duo, just excited about playing with someone
