"seemed like a good idea at the time..."

here in va. the air is like pea soup, raining cats, dogs, frogs, and who knows what else. can be tough to keep an acoustic in tune on an evening like this. so, with about 4 hrs. until sound check, i have just finished changing strings on my acoustic. not just changed them, i also changed to a brand i've never used before, a type i've never used before, and a gauge i've never had on this guitar, my only electrified acoustic.

so before my wife (who is singing the majority of the set tonight, hence more acoustic, less tele) and the other players jump my junk and ask me this question, i'm just gonna go on and ask it myself: why in the world do i do stuff like that ?!

If you've stretched the strings well to pull out all the slack, and are running through a tuner tonight, I wouldn't worry so much about new strings. What would worry me is intonation issues resulting from a change in string gauge. Have you checked the intonation since the change?

Tell them you do it out of love. And tell her it's so she can have one more thing to bring up in the future to hold over your head and keep reminding you about. If that ain't love I don't know what is.

Fortune favors the bold, punishes the foolish.
