Band Wagon Band discussion such as starting a band, playing in a band, and the like. However keep this limited to your band. Don't post about the Rolling Stones -- unless you are in the Rolling Stones.

new band forming up - posting tracks question

Starting a new band with some guys I've played with in 20 different pickup bands. I've used soundclick in the past to post stuff so I could let folks here hear it. The other day I set up on reverbnation. Anybody else use that? I was wondering about the store feature. I didn't quite get that far without giving them a lot of info. If we have CDs and shirts and such is this a good way to go? I see they have a feature, once you pay them money I think, where they create the CDs and shirts on demand but I haven't read all the way through yet. It just seems like a basic outline they give you before they want money. I like the integration with facebook.

We're on it, but I'm not sure how it works either.

My big gripe with ReverbNation is its pay for play "opportunities". They pay festivals for x number of spots, then have their members pay RN to apply for those spots.

(An aside...at a conference once and a panel of promoters said the ReverbNation model pretty much sucked...I asked them if they sold spots to ReverbNation...they all said yes.)

Anyway, our few sales have come through CD Baby and iTunes, but all we sell is CD's.

I had no idea about a festival. I'm not into that. I have an agent. I'm just curious about directing traffic to it. FB seems to work well. I'm closing in on Kenny Wayne Sheppard with a scratch track. 30,000 more plays and I'm there!

The EPK is kind of what I'm interested in but I think we can do it cheaper or free other places.

It's just a principle thing. Has nothing to do with their recorded music biz.

Nice that they charge you for an "opportunity". Sounds more like a buying a lottery ticket. Remember in Trading Places when they told Eddie Murphy the best thing about being a stock broker? Whether the client makes money or loses money, they get paid.
