I recall going out with some buddies many years ago to a small, dingy blues club in Toronto that held maybe 50 people and was introduced to Jeff Healy for the first time.
He was just a kid then, still a teenager probably. It was a strange site to see how he played that guitar and completely mind blowing as to how well he played. An amazing and inspirational person. R.I.P.

That is so sad. I haven't been this surprised or taken back by a musician's passing since SRV. I had no idea he was sick. Watching that old "See the light" clip just shows that talent like that is a gift from birth, and we were so lucky he shared his talent with us.
Growing up in Canada I was always so proud that he was a fellow Canadian. He kinda put an end to the old "Squier guitars are inferior" debate. My prayers are with his family. And thanks for posting the nice bio on his life and accomplishments. Jarrett |

There's real pain here for me. When I was growing up and famous people would pass, they were mostly just names to me.
We've moved into a period where people who have major impacts on my life are passing away. Young and old. I'm not being literal, but it feels like I'm losing friends.

What a sad day.
Jeff was a rare talent and will be missed. Since he'd been battling this cancer his whole life, we should find comfort in knowing that he is now experiencing life without pain for the first time. R.I.P. Jeff! |

Even though I knew Jeff was sick the news is no less shocking. My heart goes out to his family.
I had the good fortune to meet Jeff a few years ago when he showed up at one of my gigs wantin' to play. I handed him my guitar and let him rip for half an hour. Yes, the man could rock a Tele! R.I.P Jeff |

I remember seeing him on his first tour, me sitting in the front row, Jeff played through a little Bandit 112, the same one I had at the time...that was when I knew it didn't matter about your equipment so much as just having a passion and love for music, I knew anything was possible. Seeing the guy play with a guitar on his lap and followed duct tape on the floor from his chair to the front of the stage was simply amazing. I share some of the Jeff's same passions, Big Band music, Classic rock, & just good music. RIP Jeff.

Though his funeral will be a private affair, a public memorial is being organized for the late Jeff Healey, the musician's widow said in a statement Tuesday.
Healey, the acclaimed Canadian blues, rock and jazz musician, died Sunday following a lifelong battle with cancer. He was 41. A public memorial is in the works to honour the late Jeff Healey.A public memorial is in the works to honour the late Jeff Healey. (Canadian Press) "We would like to thank our family, friends and Jeff's fans for their condolences and kind thoughts at this most difficult time," Cristie Healey said Tuesday. "Now we need to say our goodbyes in private; however, we respect the public need to participate in celebrating Jeff's life and music and we are planning a public memorial, with details to follow." In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the international children's charity, Daisy's Eye Cancer Fund. Healey lost his sight at the age of one after being diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a form of eye cancer. Other forms of cancer struck him in recent years, with the musician undergoing several operations to have tumours removed from his leg and his lungs. The celebrated musician is survived by his widow and two children, Rachel and Derek. His last album, Mess of Blues, is scheduled to hit music stores across North America on April 22.
