Jerry Reed Lovers, Listen Up

I'm a huge fan of automotive how-to shows such as Spike TV's Powerblock shows. Since I can't afford to do a lot of those things, I'm relegated to watching for now.

If you don't know who Stacey David is, he hosted a show on TNN/Spike called "Trucks," and it was the best show in that market. Well, now he has a different show called "Gearz" and the second season debuts Saturday at 9:00 AM Eastern on Speed.

What does this have to do with Jerry Reed? Well, tomorrow's show will feature scenes from Smokey and the Bandit, and an interview with Jerry Reed. Stacey David is also a pretty good guitar player and I hope they will pick a bit like when Ted Nugent was on the show early in the first season.

Jerry Reed is one of my all time favorite pickers. Watched him once with Knopfler, Atkins and Roy Clark - Reed smoked them all.

Speaking of smoking, remember this funny one called Another Puff by Jerry Reed?

I read somewhere in a chet atkin interview they asked him what guitar player he would pay to see and he said "Doyle Dykes" they asked him if Doyle was the best player and Chet said " No sir,THAT would be Jerry Reed" or somthing to that effect, Pretty high praise and i couldnt agree more

Jerry Reed

Been a while since I came into this forum - probably because I have just settled back in the UK having spent the last thirteen years in Spain.

Anyway, good to read so much about one of my own idols, Jerry Reed who I had the great pleasure to meet (twice) and see in concert in Georgia many years ago.

Not only do I have the great memories, I have the photos from the concert, too!

Would I be bragging if I said he also gave me a belt buckle?

Nice to be back here and now I am settled, I will be back more often.

to me, Jerry was the bridge between the old-school Tele men (Nichols, Luther etc.) and the more modern Tele meisters (Gatton, Hellecasters, etc.) ... his version of "Eastbound and Down" was a masterpiece that actually sold records, and you newer Reed fans owe it to yourself to dig up his version of "Stars & Stripes Forever."

Buckle rash that might actually increase the value of a guitar.....what a concept!
