can i get on my soap box....

for a little while.....

i've been hangin' here for a while now and i don't post to much, but i have learned so much from all you guys and gals here, and i want to thank you for that. i kinda feel like i know most of you.
i was reading reverbbb's post about Dan Fogelberg passing away, and wanted to encourage everyone to be proactive about the men's health issues.
i was just diagnosed with the same disease, and am going to the university of wisconsin hospital on tuesday to have a radical prostatectomy. the cancer was caught very early, because i am very proactive about the check-ups....twice a year. my dad had it also, increasing my own chances of getting cancer.

so please get your psa checked and a prostate exam regularly. this is nothing to ignore when you reach middle age.........

we now resume regular programming
Steve

TDPRI is an unusual forum. Great people here, best members of any internet forum I've ever seen. Nice folks who can disagree with civility, more often than not.

Thanks for the health reminder... I always put off physical exams and preventative health in general. Reminders like yours might help someone catch something early.

Good luck on your surgery. Hope you're back home playing your Telecaster soon!

I second stevied's post, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer six years ago. By chance, I mentioned some symptoms I was having to my doctor, so she ran my PSA and it was very elevated. I was 51 at the time, why she didn't routinely check it is beyond me. If you're getting close to 50, insist that your doctor do a PSA! If I hadn't said something to my doctor, I might not be here now. Good luck with your surgery, stevied!
