Anybody use one of those little slides?

Good Friday, eh-

Some of what I play (typically Open G/Exile on Main Street kinda stuff) requires both use of all 4 fingers and a slide. So I'm looking for a solution to the old "hang on a minute while I put on my slide" pause.

So does anybody use one of those slide that allows you to switch without taking anything on or off?

Anybody use any of these? What do you think? Are there other options I'm missing?

I can't make any of those little slides work for me. They just don't have enough mass to allow me to use the same technique as using a full slide. You really do have to develop an entirely new technique when using some of those hybrid slides.

I almost always use a full brass slide. When I do us a glass slide for acoustic, I've got one with a couple of quarters superglued to the top of it, to give me the extra mass.

I just tried the Jetslide and it didn't work for me...felt floppy and kind of annoying....The vids sure look like they work though and I'm sure they do for some folks...The owner of the company is very cool too by the way.

I think the Shubb thing is intriguing.

Apparently, that little white plastic sleeve doesn't move, but the brass rotates. It would also allow me to use my ring finger, which I always feel like I have better control of.

Also, I saw the moooney Suzuiki last year, and their player was kicking arse with one of those dunlop shy slides (on a crappy old Gibson Mauraduer , no less). He had the full Ronnie Wood going.

I have the Dunlop. In theory, it looks like a great thing (looks like a big honking ring on your finger and doesn't impede playing), but it's not that easy to turn around and I have to agree on the mass issue-a lot of slide relies on the weight/mass of the slide to evenly pressure strings.

I might pull it out at tonight's gig and give it another shot though.

i tried the Will Ray slide ring, couldn't get anything done with it -- it would take me another lifetime to develop the touch for it. but i suck at slide in the first place.

I have one and monkey with it from time to time. I like my ceramic slide best of all, but the little steel one comes in handy from time to time, no pun intended

I use a standard dunlop glass slide on my pinky, standard tuning. The trick is to palm it in your picking hand when you ain't using it. Then play a riff, hit a note with your index finger and hold it....stick up yer pinky and slip in on.
When yer done, do it in reverse. Gets easy with a little practice.

That's what I saw Johnny Winter doing (when he plays in standard tuning). I was always amazed by the fact that his slide sometimes seemed to appear and disappear magically so I kept a close eye on him and ......viola!

+1 ... I've got one too (a Dunlop Hoolahan)... OK for the occasional slide riff, but too light for any "serious" stuff and not as practical as it looks ...

The Will Ray hipshot slide works well for two strings at a time, but I find that I have to think too hard to use it much, probably a lack of practice with it. Bil

I have one but it would take a long time if you could ever perfect its use.
It invariably gets caught between strings and catches on them even with a light touch. The one I have is only wide enough to fully deal with two strings at a time , but too wide to not hit a 3rd string or catch.

Add to that its too large for my finger and slides all over. I think if it fit tightly and I worked with it long enough to perfect it, it would be a very cool tool for playing slide in standard tuning only, where you really only slide on two strings most the time anyway.

I use a 1/2" X 2" piece of copper tubing; fit over the first joint of my little finger, Johnny Winter style. It's the only way I've ever played slide.
