That is the reason I DVR nearly everything I watch, and I will not watch AI without having DVR'd it. No commercials, no Horton Hears a Who promos, none of the special interest stories, just the singing and the judges. I rarely listen to the interviews.

The only physical issue I see with Carly is her sleeve of tattoos. She's much sexier than Brooke White who looks like she needs to eat a sandwich or two. To me, her biggest liability is her husband's appearance, because people will judge her by that. She was much cuter in the footage from her auditions a few years ago when she didn't have her arm covered in ink.

Sure - that's a shallow thing to say, but the producers are really just looking for "young, hot, eye-candy with a voice" to record vocal tracks with their prerecorded songs, then go on an endless tour to promote (*sell*) the songs. She has a great voice - reminds me of Ann Wilson - but she needs to lose weight and wear sleeves (and have her teeth fixed) to have any chance of winning AI.

The tats don't help either.

*slips into flameproof suit*

Wow, I don't think Carly is fat at all.

And some of those past winners are not what most of us would call eye candy Ruben Stoddard, Fantasia, Taylor Hicks, and last year's winner, although a lovely girl - Jordin Sparks, is not a skinny girl.

Carly is the favorite at our house, our daughters really love David Archuletta. We like David Cook, too. Although Danny Noriega never would have won Idol, I miss seeing him on the show because he was always so interesting.

The guy with the dreadlocks (forgot his name) is fizzling out, so is Brooke, although she is certainly lovely and likeable. She should be an actress, it's hard to take your eyes off of her, she has great stage presence, but her vocals just can't compete with some of the other singers. None of us care for Kristy Lee Cook.

As usual I tivo it until Brent comes home from work, he complains when I put the show on and grumbles like he doesn't like it, and then watches like he is in a trance. Last night he actually paced around a bit and made threats to the television that if Carly was let go he would do this and that and used some choice curse words and said he would never watch the show again for the rest of the season. Then when it was Amanda that had to go he was relieved but said what he does every week "why do they always make them sing after they vote them off, that's cold."

Sure, it's kinda cheesy, but it is the ONLY show that we watch together as a family anymore since our youngest daughters got older (15 and 16). They just don't want to anything with us anymore. We have a good time watching together and discuss it during the commercials and it's two nights of the week I look forward to mainly because of that.

Yes, but she looked cute and healthy. Carly looks like she's picked up a bit of bloat over the last few years (too much on-the-job Guinness?) and even just the last few weeks (high stress?). My wife and I both noticed it last night. The phrase we used, borrowed from "The Breakfast Club," was "she's pushing maximum density." And the tattoos add to the unhealthy appearance. People can complain that this is superficial, but this is a show business. Who are we kidding?

And as far as her singing goes, she's got a great voice, but I don't think she puts much personality or originality into the songs.

I'm liking Chikezie more and more. His version of "I've Just Seen a Face" didn't recapture the magic of last week's "She's a Woman," but he's still the most refreshing thing on the show. He's Chikezie, not some lifelike recreation of what a rock dude, a soul diva or a country crooner should be.

As robotic as she is, Kristie Lee is still probably the most marketable as a recording artist. (But I don't think her appearance is so mannequin-perfect. The other night, I thought to myself, "I think she has a bit of a 'stache?" A minute later, my wife said, "I think she has a moustache?" These are the dangers of watching "AI" on a high def big screen.) On a side note, I made an another observation about her to my wife the other night during the show. Immediately afterwards, Kristie Lee mentioned that she was drawn to the song "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" by the title alone, which I felt supported said observation.

I always find it comforting when the mods go lower -- literally and figuratively -- than I do.

I've never contributed to this thread, but I usually read it. Most musicians don't admit to watching Idol, so it makes me feel better that you guys do. And if Brent does, what the heck do I have to worry about!

Carly's not fat imo, but she's not Christy Lee Cook either. I agree with Superchicken though. The reason she was in the bottom was the shots of her husband. Her voice really strikes a chord with me and I love her accent. I hope she wins it all.

My statement was one of sincere appreciatiation. Who says I didn't crack a smile? Are those stalker cams you installed in the air ducts on the fritz? But "A" material?... For your sake, I hope it's "B" stuff, at best.

Look -- a smile: !

For several weeks I too have noticed Carly's appearance has changed, although I don't think she is fat. I think she just might be pregnant - it happens you know. I have been saying this every week - only time will tell. A few weeks ago I did some goggle searches to see if anyone on the net has the same opinion but have seen zero about it, and I could be WAYYY off. Every time she comes on to sing, and this was from week one when they started off with the top 24 I have said it.

The only show of this type that I've seen was when INXS was looking for a singer, albeit a singer, that didnt' have to know how to play any intstruments or write tunes. IMHO it was just ok....

That show was funny...I remember thinking wow what a dork Metallica's bass player is.

Remember the woman who had to sing 'Behind Blue eyes' and she never heard the song before? She wasn't some kid either she was a 30-something rocker chick that never heard 'Behind BLue Eyes'...I thought that was extremley odd. This is only possible if she never listened to any classic rock stations her entire life...and she is a rocker chick?

I don't think David is young enough to have that effect on MJ.

David Cook was the best performance of the night and so far he has done the most best performances on the whole show.

He could sell records. These rearrangments he is doing are actually pretty good and could be on the radio.

He was way better than anyone else tonight.

David Cook was brilliant last night. The dude from Australia rocked Queen pretty great too. All the rest were kind of boring to me.

I wish they would put the band on the same stage as the singer(s). It wouldn't be so karaoke then. They should also allow the singer more time to verbalize (argue) with the 3 idiot judges. Either that, or not let the judges give suggestions...just hold up a number from 1 to 10. Maybe just get rid of the judges all-together.

Randy Paula and Simon are part of the show it wouldnt be the same withiout them.

This years talent is the worst group of people they have ever picked so far.

Randy and Simon tell the truth Paula doesnt want to hurt anyones feelings so she tells people they are horrible in a nicer way. LOL

Remember this is a TV show its not real. Their main concern is ratings and selling Coke and Apple products. They want some young dumb kid they can make records with and rip them off royally.

Thats really what its all about.
