It would have been cool if there was a tie. BOTH Davids would have to make a CD together, as a duo. They could call themselves - David Squared...or DDaavviidd...or Davidx2...or Double D...whatever. A first for AI.
Oh well, Nashville Star comes on June 9th. Billy Ray Cypress is the host. Bound to be entertaining. I mean...what could go wrong with that idea? Pppthhh |

It's funny, my wife has been supportive of Archuleta all season. She liked Cook a lot better, but she would always defend him when I would criticize him for being boring as hell. Last night, she yelled at the TV "That little twerp better not win."
He's just not strong enough to be a solo voice in pop music. He sounded good backing up Cook, though. |

no such luck. Cook had to sing the coronation song at the end, it was the one Archuleta sang Tuesday. Cook was classy enough to share the moment with Archuleta the other top 12 contestants. the show ran about 9 minutes over. Other than winning, i think this was probably the highlight for him last night:
![]() and i hope getbent was watching last night so he could get a few more glimpses of Kristy Lee Cook. she looked stunning!

Also cool was Graham Nash with Brooke White.
I noticed Brook had one of the lower-cost Taylor acoustics with the plastic headstock facing, and Cook had a Studio model Les Paul. Just think about that: there they were with their "economy model" guitars that they bought with little cash and a headfull of dreams, and now they were playing them right alongside Graham Nash and Billy Gibbons on international TV. Did they ever think their little guitars would fly so high? |

That was nice. Jack Black with Gladys Knight was good, too. Everything Jack Black does makes me laugh.
Nah, man. He had a NEW white guitar. It had script-lettered AC below the tailpiece but still sported the EMGs like his Studio. I was thinking Gibson would make a special run of lefty Cook Studios but it looks like someone beat them to the punch. Anyone know the brand? |

No, quite the opposite. Jack was a very strong "advocate," let us say, of his opinions within the band. This is really outside of the thread and we can discusss offline but ... Obviously I did not know Jack back then. But I've spoken to those who did. And they say he's always been this way. I suppose someone who has taken Psych 101 would call it a Napoleonic complex. (Jack is a short statured man.) One name-dropping story. Sorry. A few years ago GE Smith did a concert and Jack played bass for him. On a whim, GE had the band do a funk song (I forget which, doesn't matter). In the middle of the song GE called for "just drums n' bass!" Jack held the funk down and the drummer did sort of a solo. It was very cool but it would have been wild if Jack had done a solo there too. Now, remember. The show was billed as GE Smith's band. He's the headliner. He's the band leader. All the songs were his and he sang all the songs. After the show, I mentioned to GE that he should have nudged Jack into doing a solo, that it would have sounded great there. GE agreed it would have sounded great but said "Me tell Jack what to play!?" That should give you an idea. |
