I think the Top 10 are on a one-year contract, because they do that Top 10 Tour.
But if you look at some of the albums released by the non-winners (Daughtry, especially), they go their own way pretty quickly.

I was really gunning for Cook last night. Although he sang well I don't think he shone like he has in the past. Archuletta, on the other hand sang like there was no tomorrow. He looked completely overwhelmed in between songs but I think he's got it.

I really don't like Archuletta, but he clearly wiped the floor with Cook last night. Cook's song choices -- he got two, right? -- were underwhelming. They didn't effectively serve as vocal or dramatic showcases. At this point, Archuletta deserves to win the competition. Their longterm career prospects are another matter entirely.

They had three each: One chosen by Clive Davis. I forget who chose the second but the Davids chose the last songs on their own.

I don't like that Archuletta did the Imagine cover again. Nothing to gain by repeating what you've already done. To me, that was playing it way too safe considering how popular Cook is.

Then again, DC didn't help himself a lot with the Collective Soul song. It was ok, but nothing special. Still, I preferred it to a reprise of Billie Jean.

I wouldn't say either of them ran away with it. Obviously the judges felt differently as they seemed to have already crowned Archuleta. They'll have to do some serious back-pedaling if it turns out that Cook wins it, which I hope he does.

I will post the votes graph after the show is over.

I thought this was kept super-secret from the public...unless...you work for AT&T.

There is a site on the net that always posts the last 3 weeks of the show votes.

I was expecting a good story, Mark. I'll just wait for the show tonight, provided no one leaks the results.

Archuletta! Not

He is what they wanted from the start. The video of him and Kelly, the prompting all along the way, the stacking of the audience with sub-18 year old girls. I missed a few of the performances, but saw the recap. Did David Cook's recap sound a little under produced? I mean rawer than David A.'s? Well anyway the producers got what they wanted, even though it wasn't him. They just have to deal with a soft Rock idol; competition for Daughtry.

http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA417981.htmlhttp://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA417981.html

This is a subtle indication of the production problems alluded to earlier in the thread by some who were maligned for thinking there could be anything wrong with Idol.

Repeating a good performance from an earlier show is a time-honored A/I tradition.

Clarkson did "Respect" again, the chick who lost to Taylor Hicks repeated her version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow," etc.

This reminds me of something that happened last night. Archuletta started singing his 2nd song (I think), the crowd noise dies down and the audience settles in as he begins, then about 2 lines into the song there is a swell of female-audience noise which dies down after about a second. It was strange and out-of-place for the moment. If I didn't know better, I'd think someone inadvertently hit the "female audience noise" button in the control room.

Did anyone else notice it? Or are all these conspiracy theories getting the best of me?

I caught that too and yes, it did seem out of place.

The Dial Idol Site that monitors the busy signals is generally correct. Tonights final result numbers were very close to the prediction.
So for those who thought the comments of the judges or other production decisions would force a winner - it apparently did not work. Or one could argue they knew the comments would force a backlash for the winner they wanted.

Except Cook was too chicken to take a solo.

If I'm on TV with Gibbons, even at my level, ya better believe I would try and whup some 12-bar boogie on him.

By the way, I knew Cook would win. Ask my family, I predicted it before Seacrest read the name.
