Missed It - WOW!
Went to look at a new car for my wife and woops.
That is all fouled up! Carly was one of the more talented, but popularity is the name of the game around now. And I really can NOT help thinking that there seems to me (JMHO) that it has been geared around getting a young male idol since the outset. No conspiracy theories, just the structure and audience makeup at the shows. We now have two female contestants who have been in the bottom group several times.

I was surprised by the results, but probably shouldn't have been.
Carly was a screamer. She seemed like a nice person, but I won't miss her performances at all. Syesha has set up shop in the bottom 3 for the past month or so. Shouldn't have been a surprise. Brooke benefited from the displaced KLC voters. She's has the best tone of anyone that's left. However, her interrupting and crying routine have probably worked against her. The start-and-stop pump fake is disappointing, too. |

I think Castro was unfairly slammed by the judges. They wondered why he was singing a song meant for an old female cat. But the little girls in TV land didn't care. As far as they were concerned, he was singing about to the about their imaginary relationship. Personally, I think that his voice has a great tone that will sound good on recordings. Carly's... not so much, unless she does an album of Heart covers. And I don't know how they'd market her.
Syesha gave a great performance. She's actually improved greatly in recent weeks. But there's something about her face and manner that is vaguely off-putting, and even when she's really good, she's not particularly fresh or creative. Brooke, on the other hand, engenders empathy.

i have a theory on why Carly is gone. it has to do with the song she sang, and how middle America perceives it. but the subject is something we can't discuss here (and it's not politics or sex). i work for a Fox TV affiliate and we actually got complaining phone calls after she sang. i'm sure you can put 2 + 2 together and get where i'm coming from without taking this discussion further. i certainly don't want to stop this thread or get it removed, because i like the show and this thread is lots of fun.
aside from that, i like David Cook the best and i think he will profit from Carly's exit since he's the only one left with any kind of edgy-ness.

David Cook has had the highest number of votes each week ever since he did that rearrangment of Hello.
DC is gonna win DA will be 2nd just like Clay was. Here are the stats i got from the webpage. This isnt from vote for the worst either its a place that just tells the votes and facts. David Cook received the most phone and text votes following the April 22 performance show. Carly Smithson, Syesha and Brooke White received the fewest. Carly goes home. Syesha goes on.

It's Tuesday again. time for another big American Idol night.
and the special guest coach/mentor is Neil Diamond. this time the kids get to perform two songs each (both have to be Neil Diamond songs, of course) some thoughts... David Cook could really turn a couple of DIAMONDS into ROUGHS and make them cool. The Dredded Jason...might be a great night for him if he chooses well. my guess is: one great, one lousy. Archuleta...another round that should be right in the kid's wheelhouse. dang it! Syesha. she could turn a couple of numbers such as "Thank the Lord For The Nighttime" and "Brother Love's Travelin' Salvation Show" into show stoppers. Brooke: no more do-overs. you better remember the words this week, young lady!

I can't see David Cook doing that well this week. His standard treatment won't work on these songs, he'll have to play it straight to do well. One song would be okay, but two will be a challenge for him.
Archuletta really doesn't have any dynamic range, some Neil Diamond songs require that. Again, he could balladeer one, but two? But the puppy love crowd votes for him, so who can tell? Sayeesha has her own destiny in her hands this week. What will she chose? Will she over-Broadway it as a carry over from last week? Jason Castro will also need some help in song selection, but might be able to fake it through two songs better than some of the rest this week. Brooke, poor Brooke, is being watched this week. She can not flub again. In line with the pattern set by the voting, if she does only half well, she will be all gone. The popularity aspect at this point is overwhelming. There really is a lag in voting response. It was amazing to me how many said Carly smashed it before Wednesday of last week, and how the tune had changed on Thursday morning with many saying she butchered it. I am referring to the folks in the entertainment industry. Someone here said that her song choice and the current socio-political attitude of the country did her in. I think they were right.

AI is having ratings probs this year lowest ratings in 5 years.
All shows care about ratings cause the higher the ratings the more they can charge for advertisements which is the real reason they are there. When the #1 show in the USA isnt #1 anymore they start to freak. There really isnt anyone this year with any perrsonality or at least not really interesting.' Even tho Sanjaya was horrible it was fun to see what he was gonna do in the next show this year there really isnt anything to look forward to.

I disagree. I think this year's final 12 is way better than last year. Last year was horrible, but the previous two years were pretty good. Season 5 with Daughtry, Hicks, McPhee, Pickler, Yamin, Covington, Ace, and Kevin Covias (remember Chicken Little?) was the best as far as the cast of characters...

I agree this years 12 are way better than last years 12. Jordan was just ok her vocal chords hemmoraged and they are wondering if she will ever sing again. Blake 2nd place last year the beat box kid was horrible.

Brooke: “I Am … I Said” and “I’m a Believer” Jason: “Forever in Blue Jeans” and “September Morn” David A: “Sweet Caroline” and “America” Syesha: “Hello Again” & “Thank the Lord for the Night Time” Those are the songs for tonight 4-29

OMG! And I want all those people who think/thought Neil Diamond was schmalzy or easy listening to prick up their ears on these awful sounds tonight! David Cook was inarticulate through most of the second song(but the judges loved him, Paula crowned him and Simon backed it up). They are really trying to fill the Daughtry hole. The judges have voted. Neil Diamond has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, now I'll say it loud and proud.

Is it just me or does little David A sound like he is singing with cotton in his mouth.
Know what I mean? The notes are always muffled a little bit. They don't come out clear. And will somebody please adjust Paula's meds! (For those who didn't see - each contestant sang two songs. After the first song, Seacrest asked Paula to comment. And she starting critiquing Cook's first and second song ... which he hadn't sung yet. |

They all did well IMO. Who will go? Beats me. Probably a guy, just to make the boys vs girls work for the show. But P Abdull was the show stopper with her comment on "the unsung song".

Yeah, that deal with Paula just threw everything for a loop. I seriously think that's what screwed dreds up. Boy... Paula is the perfect commercial for the anti-drug campaign.
Brooke is just in over her head now. She's a good singer, but she's out of her league now. |

I'm not a speech pathologist, but I thiink you're right. A correction. I was in a hurry last night. It was w/ Dreadhead that she made the flub, not Cook. Sorry. But speaking of Cook . . . Anyone else notice the conspicuous placement of the EVH amp (in place of the Marshall) in perfect camera position? |

I can't believe that Brooke made the top 5. It shows how thin the talent is this year. Her "I Am I Said" was nice, although nothing spectacular, but I'll bet that there are literally hundreds of people on this forum who could do "I'm a Believer" as well as she did.
Dial Idol is predicting Syesha as the top vote-getter last night, which I can't believe. They show Brooke on the bottom. I sure hope that Brooke is gone - she has been around way longer than she deserved.
