5.1 Mixes on Broadcast TV
Lately, I've noticed that whenever the "Today" show goes outside on the plaza, they're putting ambient crowd sounds in the rear surrounds. Now, I'm watching Sheryl Crow on "Today" and they've got an acoustic guitar panned all the way to the right surround and percussion panned back to the left surround. Mixes like these aren't an accurate aural representation of the instrument placement we see on screen, but I did 'em. And I think it's great that networks are finally beginning to take full advantage of this technology.
