Rolling Stones / Their Satanic Majesties Request.
Original 1967 3-D cover.
The fact that the music was great was a bonus.

+1 That's a vinyl LP I wish I still had just for the cover alone. "Through the Past Darkly" was another cool Stone LP cover, with its octagonal shape. Jewel cases just don't seem to provide the greatest medium for eye-catching cover art.

First LP I ever bought was for the inside cover. Led Zeppelin 4.
The music turned out OK too.

Yep! The bad part was having to buy a turntable to play them on.
But it was worth the trouble.

I stumbled on this one whislt perusing the "cut outs" at Atlantic Mills in Olneyville, RI 1973. A WINNER and still one of my favorites.

I've bought a number of LP's because of the cover. Got burned more often than not. Every once in a while, though, I'd find a real gem. These two immediately come to mind:

Soundgarden's louder than love album. I didn't know anything about the band but I saw that cover in 1990 and I had a feeling it would rock; it does

I have yet to actually listen to it, I don't own a working record player, it just hangs on the wall, bought it for 2 bucks.

after a google search looking for that album cover, i found this cover by the same artist:

quite a drastic difference between the two.... I definitely wouldn't hang the second on my wall.

I went to a record show last night (like an art gallery with record covers hanging on the wall) and that album was one of my favorites, it was round though. Looked great. There was a Barbaro record (an eastern European rock band I think) that had an awesome cover, with bull horns coming out of a bull dozer. Wish I could find a pic.

I've done it a few times - more so when I was younger. There have been a fair few misfires but there is no better feeling then when you strike lucky.

Mom's Apple Pie (original cover)

For those of you who have seen the cover, it's obvious to you why it's probably inappropriate to post the picture....

There was a band called Trapezoid that started out as a hammered dulcimer quartet. By their third album, "Now and Then" they'd added two women to the band. I saw the album at Tower Records in San Francisco and the stark B&W cover just grabbed me. I immediately bought it and it became a favorite. A few years later I became the band's sound engineer and office assistant. It all started with the album at Tower Records.

I'll not post a pic, but I've got Blind Faith's album with the topless redhead on the jacket. I bought it for the music, however, so it doesn't qualify...

Oh what the heck!

I got this one from a Salvation Army Op' Shop for 50c about 3 weeks back.

Had no idea who Dennis Coffey was, just thought this guy looked like one cool dude!
Turns out he was one of the session guitarists who played alot of what was coming out of Motown back in the day!
I haven't played it yet, but it sits right in front of me every day at the computer begging to be played.

I thought it would be a wall-hanger at best?
