A Blues Prayer

OK…this is something a little different, but let’s throw it at the wall (screen?) and see if it sticks.
2 people very close to me have daughters that have been given high odds of dying of cancer.
One is the daughter of my first true love (with whom I stay in sporadic touch) and she shares a birthday with my older son (weird that we had kids on the same day!)
The other is my cousin's daughter; she is the same age as my younger son, and looks amazingly like him.
So, this stuff feels real close to home for me.
Anyway…I wrote a blues for them, and I’ll be performing it with my band and I thought that it would be a great way to get some good thoughts out for these kids and their parents…or maybe you know somebody in a similar place.
It's far from the best song I've written, but I think it gets its power from what it says more than how it's said.
Tennyson wrote that “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.”
This is a Blues Prayer.
It’s an 8-bar blues, and you can sing it much the same as Elmore James’ “It Hurts Me Too”.
Please feel free to play it.
It’s called “She’s Got Work to Do”

I know a little girl, fighting for her life
She needs to be somebody’s mother, she needs to be somebody’s wife
I’m begging you, Lord…let this one stay
‘Cause she’s got work to do

I ain’t begging for me, it’s for her mom and dad
If their little girl can’t stay, they’re gonna be so sad
I’m begging you, please… let this one stay
‘Cause she’s got work to do

I know God works---in mysterious ways
And some have to go, and some have to stay
But I’m begging you please… let this one stay
‘Cause she’s got work to do

Heaven’s not the only place, where angels can be found
Because I know I’ve seen one, right here on the ground
I’m begging you please… let this one stay
Cause she’s got work to do

I never asked no favors---never tried to make no deals
All I can do, is try to say the way I feel
So I’m begging you, please… let this one stay
Cause she’s got work to do.

Nicely done - good thoughts and prayers sent, Charlie. This dreaded disease causes much too much pain.

Best wishes to both of those people. Thanks for sharing the song. I'll put in a good word for them when I talk to the boss.
