Family photo (with a couple exotic instruments)

I finally got around to taking some photos of the family gathered round the piano. So, here we go:

This is the whole bunch. Front row (L to R): That's an acoustic baritone on the left, made by a Finnish luthier called Tero Siromaa. An MIM rosewood next and an old beat up Seagull in the middle. Then a German tenor banjo and a baritone ukulele.

On the keyboard of the piano: mixed African percussion that my wife brought from Mozambique, a pan flute. On the right a sheng (which is a Chinese mouth-organ) and a lap steel.

On top of the piano: on the left there's a jouhikko (Finnish bowed lyre) and a kantele (Finnish zither) next to that. On the right, a glockenspiel and a gaita (Galician bagpipes).

Here's a closer view:

That's the jouhikko on the left, kantele in the middle, under one of the pipes of the gaita (bagpipe). Also here you can see a maracas from Mozambique, a couple jew's harps (two European, one Peruvian), a harmonica and a kazoo, two tin whistles and a benas from Sardinia.

Closer:

That's the Peruvian jew's harp on the left, followed by two European ones. Benas on the far right. And the kantele in the background.

A couple more pics in the next post...

a couple more...

Guitars:

And one more:

I also have a big frame drum I made a few years ago that didn't end up in the picture. Now all I need to do is to learn how to play all these.

Thanks for watching, sorry about the poor quality of pictures, we have pretty much no natural light this time of year.

Great collection of instruments. Wouldn't want to be your neighbour if they all got going at once!

Yeah, luckily for the neighbours there's only one of me. The bagpipes do make quite a racket (which is my excuse for never really learning to play them properly).

This:

http://www.fairtrade.net/ (I hope that's not too political for the forum. I've no desire to pick a fight.)

It's really beat up, but I do really love it. It also has banjo-tuners on it, so it's a pretty special guitar. It still sounds great after all the damage it has taken.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

Great pictures.

Fascinating instruments! I'll bet that baritone sounds powerful. It looks a little bigger than a normal Gibson-style "super jumbo".

The baritone does sound pretty amazing and very powerful. The tone is really deep and dark, which suits the baritone perfectly, at least the way I've been playing it (I've played in a band without a bass player for a couple years). I believe the body is about the size of a Gibson superjumbo, but I'm not quite sure.

There are a few more pictures of the baritone here, including some of the luthier at work. These were taken by a pro photographer, much better quality pics than mine:
