Ever had an eyeglass prescription put you to sleep?

I was playing a little hooky in my own house (I telecommute) today and i was recording some tracks for our CD now that I'm moved in and have a little enough stuff dragged out of boxes to record with.

I put on my prescription glasses (trifocals), which I wear when not working (at which time i wear single strength reading glasses because I work on a large Apple monitor and I don't want to crane my neck to use the "up close" portion of my scrip). Today I was recording a rhythm track, wearing those glasses and for some reason, it was putting me to sleep.

I don't have narcolepsy but I damn near nodded off playing a rhythm track. Screwed it up and had to take it again.

Anybody else ever have that happen?

Well, as one who has worn glasses every waking hour since the age of 8, I can tell you that if your prescription is incorrect for whatever reason, or you've been straining to focus while your glasses were off, then putting on lenses with proper correction can relax the muscles in your skull significantly. And that could be enough to make you feel pleasantly drowsy.

Been wearing glasses since I was 2. If the prescription is wrong it can cause all kinds of problems. Headaches sick to your stomach vertigo you name it.

I got a pair of glasses once and when I looked at the ceiling it made the wall and ceiling look curved like a rainbow. Drove me nuts for a couple days took them back got another pair.

Id call up the eye doc and tell him/her what happened.

I had some xray glasses for awhile. I'd put them on... stare at a pretty girl... in a few minutes... .... .... ..... I was fast asleep. I cannot describe it as hands free viewing.

Some of these bi and tri-focals are real hard to adapt to.

I had that Lasik 7-8 years ago, so I'm 1 of those lucky bassers who is wearing glasses less than I have since age 10.

By the way, never go to America's Best. They are hell on wheels, basically a criminal enterprise.

Still telecommuting must be cool. Wish I could do that. I am a wee bit envious.

I hadn't changed my prescrip in 10 years, and finally did earlier this year. Walked around for about half an hour, did some shopping and all of a sudden got whacked in the head (almost literally) by the worst vertigo/headspin/nausea. Had to lie down in a park bench for 45mins and even then I couldn't take the train home - needed to get picked up!

Spoke to the specialist and they told me to watch tv for a bit with the new glasses, and minimise movement/looking at things up close, and I was fine the next day.

I'm an optometrist and I never heard someone claiming the glasses put them to sleep!
If your using trifocal lenses (progressives I suppose) they're tricky to adapt. They have to be in the right place of your face and you have to do some training to adapt your way of looking through them. Go to the place where you bought them (I don't really know how it works there in the US) and ask for some advice.

Yeah, they're progressives. And the bridge pads broke off so they're closer to my eyes and I suspect that may have something to do with it. I need to get new glasses.

that could very well be your problem, Pete. if they were genuine illusory X-Ray specs, it wouldn't matter!
