Here's a Double Necker You've Never Seen?!...

Some weirdo has this on CL here in Vancouver. 5 string banjo and fretless bass!!! I laughed hysterically when I saw it cause it's so cool and unusual. I could never imagine the combination. I have no idea who made it, maybe I'll inquire if anyones interested? How about Tim Armstrong, should be right up your alley?

Here's an interesting concept... What about a doubleneck guitar/bass?
I can imagine ripping away at the high strings of the guitar part, then switching and doing a fast bass run to piss off your bassist.

Mike Rutherford of Genesis had one of these back in the late 70's and early 80's.

I have a Dano double with standard VI on the bottom, and bass VI up top. Its a monster, but I love it....

The standard six sounds....ok. The neck feels great, sound is kinda jangly when clean. The bass VI on the top is just awesome....think of the solo on "Wichita Lineman".

The guitar/bass combo is cool, but of very limited use/practical application. It isn't light either... I'd rather have a 6/12 doubleneck anyday.
(see far right of couch for my old Hamer one)

First of all, how long do you reckon the neck on that Elvis double would've lasted with all that weight on it AS WELL AS the bass strings?

I have a double neck, bass over guitar. Made of nearly 2" thick birch ply, I swear it's nearly twice as thick as the Epi 1275 I saw a GC a while back, Japanese, by the markings on the pots/switches, SG style intrument. I've never weighed it, but heavy doesn't BEGIN to describe it. I could play it for 1 set, but never tried to go any deeper. The guitar always sounded like crap, so away it went. Now that I know a thing or two about construction, I may see if I can figger out what's up with the toneon the 6 neck. The bass was quite tolerable, and the short scale always made me feel Jack Bruce-esque (Burlesque?).

Oh, I know how to use a router now, too. Bwah-hah-hah

John Lodge of the Moody Blues has a beautiful natural ash Tele 6/sting and bass, blackgard. I have it on DVD but can't find any pics.

well, to stay in topic, i'd just like to say that I can't imagine any situation where a banjo and a double humbucker bass would be useful
