Guinness draft is 4.2 and although I don't have a stout in the house, my wife believes that it's not that much higher in alcohol content. Just don't make the mistake of grabbing anything that says Guinness as I once did, only to find out that it was brewed in Canada by Labatts... yech! Only the stuff from Ireland in our house since then. If we want a good dark beer with more of a kick then we buy 'Okanagan Springs' Porter, which is brewed here in BC and now owned by Sleemans.

I can visualise the Delhi Belly with a headache.

How do you keep the water out of the beer? And how do you keep all the beer from running out? Or am I not properly understanding this?

Flying Dog Amber Larger & Pale Ale when I can find them. Good stuff & the Steadman drawings add a nice touch.

I haven't a clue, I was hoping someone else did. Wait on, I just took the oppertunity to open a bottle of beer and tip it upside down in a glass of water, while some came out it was very little. I would hazard a guess that the atmospheric pressure exerting down on the surface area of the glass is greater than the weight trying to get out, 1.5"x1.5"x3.1416x14.7= 103.9lbs
The beer is nice too.

I lived in India for a while (Karnataka and Tamil Nadu) and except for a ban on alcohol when a famous actor was kidnapped (Rajkumar) the beer was very good.

I mainly drank Kingfisher. Stands up against any other beer I've downed.

Now, the Sope in Eastern Indonesia - that's on the other end of the alcohol spectrum. Best mix I ever saw. The village elder (crazed distiller of palm sugar moonshine) opened the lid on a gallon drum of Sope and poured in my 355ml can of coca cola. He tasted it and said in Indonesian to us, "Now, it's fine."

Lights went out about an hour after that.

I went to the most local microbrewery/restaurant to me in Matthews NC called "Hops" for dinner last night. Wednesday is the night to go! $0.99 12oz drafts of their brews, and their porter is really nice. They do the same special on Mondays, too, but that's my band rehearsal night. Food was good, service was fast. As my wife said last night, "Every time we come here, I always wonder why we don't come here more often." Amen!

3.2 flu

in Colorado (at least from 1990-1993) you could buy 'real' beer only at a liquor store, and the grocery stores could only sell 3.2 beer.

Split Lip Rayfield have a funny song called "3.2 Flu". (although down here we call it the 'Brown Bottle Fever')...

All this talk about the % of ETOH in beer. How about flavor or even better how about what's the worst beer ever taste wise. Being from Syracuse, NY there's always Carling Black Label. I always loved their jingle

" Mabel, Black Label. Carling Black Label Beer "

God awful tasting beer. I always thought it was from Rochester or Utica but it's Canadian. If you were crawling through the Arizona desert in the middle of summer and came upon someone with a icechest full of Carling's and they popped one open for you. You say " No thanks " and keep on crawling.

Was in Damascus, Syria and had one with made by Heniken. It had a big X on the label and was 10% ETOH. Black Label's equal.....Cheers
