NCAA football bowl scheduling grumblings.....

I like pulling up to my tv around Christmas time... and watching bowl after bowl.... all culminating with the national championship game...

In past years, each successive bowl game seemed to be stronger and stronger teams.... culminating with the undisputed (haha) two best teams that played for the national championship.... This seemed to build momentum going into the big 4 bowl games on new years day...

But this year.... with only 3 bowl games to go..... here's the line up:

Sat: UNRANKED Rutgers vs. UNRANKED Ball St.
Sun: UNRANKED Bowling Green vs UNRANKED Tulsa
Mon: #2 LSU vs. #1 Ohio St.

not so long ago, the last 15 or so bowl games to be played seemed to be reserved for the ranked opponents....

I'm honestly not going to watch Rutgers play Ball St.... no offense.. but.. come on...

I know it's all about the money..... but in my opinion.... The suits have destroyed everything good in the world...... including my beloved college bowl week... :(

You forgot tonight-Kansas/Virginia Tech.
Bring on the playoffs in College Football!
Force each conference to crown a champion and have a playoff. Leave the independents out of it until they decide to join a conference.

I don't like how they air the games now. I used to like watching the games all day New Year's Eve and then again on New Year's day. They are spread out too much now...

BUT Oregon State won their game and that's all that matters to me!

+100
It literally makes me sick to see teams from conferences with NO championship as well as independents even considered for the National Championship. I love College Football, but I despise the BCS.

Howdy,

Without a play-off, a true Nat'l Champ cannot be determined.

Eggman

PS: The Rose Bowl (Big 10/Pac Ten) are holding college football hostage

Don't forget that the bowl games this weekend are competing with the NFL playoffs so I guess I'm not surpised that there'll be a couple of tomato cans playing each other.

It's all about $$$$$$$$$$$$

Used to be just "The Orange Bowl". Now it's "The Fed-Ex Orange Bowl". Won't be long until a players jersey names get replaced by a company sponsor name. Like - "Bengay Knute Rockne".

Amen to that. Also, am I wrong or weren't most (or all) games actually on New Tears Day itself 25-30 years ago? Seems to me that there used to be just the Cotton, Orange, Rose, Sugar, and Fiesta bowls back then. I'm sure I'm forgetting some but there's so many more games now. I'm not sure being able to watch two teams that are both one game over .500 in a bowl game is what I'd call progress.

I must say that I don't like the idea of a playoff system in college football.... IF it extends football past the new year...

Take the top 8 teams....

1 vs. 8
2 vs. 7
3 vs. 6
4 vs. 5

They play a game in mid december.... then... around christmas time... the 4 winners of those games play a game..

then... the remaining two teams play on new years day..

A college playoff system cannot go past the first week of january... after all... those kids do play football, but they're also enrolled in college classes..... it's MUCH easier to make up a final than it is to catch up after missing the first month of class....

BUT.... I still love the motivational factor of having to beat the crap out of EVERY opponent to be considered the number one team in the nation..

I'm afraid with a college football playoff system, we'll see far fewer "dominant" teams.... those teams that you watch and know that there is no one in the NCAA that could beat them...... EVERY game.... growing up... watching Florida State come 1 game away from a national championship for all those years was (even though I was born in Tallahassee and am a die hard fan) ... well.... what I love about college football..... EVERY play meant your season.....

That.... and those of you who say that independents shouldn't be considered.... with a playoff system that doesn't rely on rankings, instead relies on conference champions........ any given team can lose a couple of games, rest your starters in the non conference games, and win their respective conference championships... If a "conference champion" reliant playoff system were used, then we probably would not see many (if any) undefeated teams anymore.... besides if it were that way, then half the SEC wouldn't make it into the playoffs...... And you can't have a college football playoff system without at least the top 3 or 4 SEC teams in it....

the SEC is that good....

oh well.. the suits will make their money.. and continue to destroy everything that is good in life....
