I don't like that type of Chess pieces personally. I like Staunton style Chess sets. Like this one:

I have an old chess set that my dad brought back from Korea in the early 50's that I have wondered about. The pieces are very intricately carved and possibly ivory, they have an asian motif to the pieces. The case that holds the pieces has a playing board on the back but some of the wood squares are warped, he said it got wet when they were hauling it onto the ship.I used to play chess with him when I was younger and he always won.

Staunton style for playing

Howdy,

Marty, you want Staunton style for playing (like Pete Galati posted). The ones shown in the photo, while pretty (and possibly worth money, but I cannot say) would be of little practical use to Chess enthusiasts.
