Your favorite pet.
I was on another site that has videos, (betcha' can't guess which one, dyuk), anyway, I went to the site of a springer spaniel and left a comment about my dog who I had for 13 years. You know, usual stuff, how much I missed him, how hard it was to put him down, etc. Well, someone responded to the comment and it turned out to be a young kid who had just had to put his dog down two weeks ago. We have been exchanging stories, and it got me to thinking. Animals, domestic animals especially are such a big part of our lives when we let them in.
So what was your favorite pet that you have had during your life? My dog was a Springer Spaniel, black and white, trained to hunt pheasants and grouse, my wife and kids protector when I wasn't around and a very gentle soul. Great dog. It's my contention that all of us have one animal in our lives that is exceptional, what do ya tink?

Well, I'd have to say the dog I have now. But one we had when I was a kid (Landseer Newfoundland) Intercepted a rabid fox; not 25 feet from my Dad. He was probably the best dog I had for that reason and the fact he was such a placid friendly dog...much like I the one I have now.
Tall, leggy con artist/best pal.

I've had several great dogs, a golden Cocker Spaniel female from when I was about 4-12 years old, a Bedlington Terrier male when I was about 25 -33 years old, and a black and tan Daschund female who passed away about three years ago. I loved them all and they can never be replaced.

We have one horse, one dog and one cat.
Though I love them all dearly my Miniature Schnauzer has stolen my heart . I did not want a small dog but we became hopelessly attached right away. I greatly fear the day that we must part for she is always by my side- even sits in front of my amp like the RCA Victor dog. Jed (on the left) and Dixie (on the right). Dixie had cancer and had to be put down a little over a year ago, just nine months after I took her in. She was a total sweetheart.
Jed is still here and as loyal as can be. Or maybe it's neurotic and needy, I can't really tell. He's a sweet and gentle boy who wants nothing more than for someone to pet him all day, every day. They used to share a double-deluxe size bed just like this every night, and they each had their favorite side tha they always used. ![]() |

I've loved them all. Grew up as a cat person but have come to really enjoy a dog's companionship in the last ten years.
Just lost the second dog in two years unexpectedly. Didn't think we had it in us to get another...but then this little cutie showed up, subsequently named Daisy. A Yorkie with what I suspect is a good deal of Jack Russell in her lineage. Tons of fun! ![]() |

My favorite cat is the little character I have now. Named Squeek. Easily the most involving, most idiosyncratic feline personality ever for me. A gorgeous little calico female. Sorry no pics.
On the dog side: I've never had one. My wife's daughter rescued a female mostly pit bull (1/8th boxer too) at less than 3 weeks of age. Collectively we nursed her along and are raising her. Legal name: Bella. My name (which stuck): girlpuppy. This is one of the smartest and certainly the funniest animals I've ever met. Well behaved, graceful ... everyone who meets this dog loves her. |

I've got a mouse and he hasn't got a house I don't know why I call him Gerald. He's getting rather old but he's a good mouse...

My family has had dogs my entire life. My current dog is a Belgian Malinois.
That's him in the middle, playing with his neighbors a few days ago: ![]() The one in the back is an Australian Cattle Dog that my Pointer helped raise. But I've had a couple cats by now, and I like them a lot. They're not much protection, but they're a lot less work. This is my current cat "Bob" with my current dog "Mojo": ![]() |

The best dog I ever had was also an English Springer Spaniel. He was also my first. I remember my Mom and I going to the pet store at the mall and seeing him there in the cage. We took him out to play and he was so great and happy to be out of that cage. Mom and I both wanted to get him, but we put him back, walked around the mall, and Mom decided we just couldn't afford him. He was $400 and my parents didn't have the money. I think I was 10, and I was so upset we couldn't get him, I started crying right there in the mall. The next day, my Mom and I were doing something in the garage with the door open, and Dad pulls up with our first dog. We named him Beau and he was just a great dog. Very smart and friendly. We had him a little more than 15 years when my Mom called a few days after my birthday and said they had to put him down. He could barely move, couldn't stand on his own, and was in a lot of pain. I left work and drove 60 miles so we could bury him in the back yard. My Dad dug the hole, and as soon as the shovel went into the ground I completely lost it. Here I am, a 25 y/o man at the time, and I was crying uncontrolably. We buried him with his favorite football, and I can barely type this thinking about him. That was about six years ago and I still miss him. It was one of the sadest days of my life. I've got some great dogs now, but he was the best. Wish I had gotten another Springer, but we rescued another great dog instead.
Wish I had some pics I could post but they're at home. RIP Beau
