Lol! No, not where I live. So I have to practice instead.
You're out in the desert though, maybe you can get away with that.

I've been dreaming of getting into a regular practice routine, but it just isn't happening. I get up at 5:00, go to work, get home at 5:00, do chores, dinner, and dishes and it's 9:30. Take the dogs out and get ready for bed. Sleep 6 hours and start over again. I just had 2 weeks off from work and noodled for a total of 15 minutes.

If you spend any time watching TV, pick up a guitar and play while you're watching TV. Tim Bowen brought that up, and that's something I do all the time. Sometimes I'm playing an electric unplugged, and sometimes I'm plugged into a little Roland Cube15 amp.

You don't have to practice anything specific, but almost anything you do will be good for muscle memory, ear training, and familiarity with the fingerboard.

I'm really inconsistent with practising...sometimes it seems I play the whole day, and other times it seems like a week goes by and I haven't picked up the axe - which is of course bad. I'm not one of those guys who can sit down for 30 minutes a day every day and follow some routine - I've tried it and each time naturally just fall out of it. I spent most time composing or playing songs rather than practising scales or licks.

Well there's the issue right there, musicians don't get up at 5am. I play from 10-midnight, get up at 7:15, so I get both my practice time and sleep time. Gotta reorganize and prioritize bro.

btw, some guys would say that whole work thing is an issue also

Well I didn't want to get in to that but ... yeah, I normally don't get up until about 9:30 am (lol!) and I can barely even communicate for another hour. I am also fortunate in that I rarely have to do anything until about 1:00 in the afternoon.

The good thing about playing a musical instrument is you can find enjoyment playing a little or a lot. I fall into the alot category. If I don't practice/play/gig 3-5 hours per day I get ansy. I just finished my 3 hours today by learning some new stuff for an upcoming gig (requests from NYEve gig) and going over some old stuff we have not played in awhile.
I get home from work about 3:30 and generally start about 5. Do 1.5 hours before supper and 1.5 or more after supper. Weekends at least 4 per day.
I handle about 40% of our vocals so I am not just playing instrumentals.
This is just what I like to do so it is no big deal. The easy way for me to get started is to work on a new song. After about 15-20 minutes of that I go into the sets and the time flys by.
