Jorma Kaukonen's Fur Peace Ranch

Has anyone ever gone to Fur Peace?

http://www.furpeaceranch.com/

I'm going in October. I got my confirmation in the mail today, so I'm pretty
psyched! I'll be in Herb Pedersen's acoustic guitar/vocal harmony class. He's from the Desert Rose Band. Plus, on Saturday (10/11) Chris Hillman & Herb Pedersen will give a show.

Bill Kirchen is teaching the same weekend, so I'll look forward to meeting him. I thought about taking his class, but Herb's class is more in line with what my home instructor is teaching me and what I have an opportunity to play locally.. which is all unplugged.

I've been thinking about that for several years now but they never seem to have a class I want available at a time I'm looking at the website. They must have added Kirchen recently because he wasn't on the schedule when they posted the 2008 calendar. I bet the Chris Smither session is entertaining too.

Ha! That's like 3 miles from me!!!!

I'm seriously right down the road, I've gone to concerts there and their annual holiday fair. Jorma's a great guy, so is Vanessa, his wife. I've never had the scratch around to stay there though.

If you want, PM me in October, I'll take you out for a drink. We'll head up to Athens, a great little music town. I know all the cool haunts I'm sad to say.

I have considered some seminar lessons before but I never could justify spending that much money on a few hours of lessons. There is one weekend of classes there this year that is tempting but with all of my wife's medical bills I can't see myself going.

I also considered the Bob Brozman IGS seminar a few years back but it was just too much money... Plane trip and other expenses along with tuition would have been over 2K...
So I bought a guitar...

I have taken some local one day things with John Jackson, Del Rey, Steve James and Alvin Hart but unfortunately I don't seem to retain much from those and I worry that the other seminars would be a whirlwind and I wouldn't remember much.

Good luck, Have fun!
