Transformers 2.... Dinobots included... :(

Alright... I know that the Transformers cartoon series was actually spawned from a toy company.... 30 minute animated commercials....

BUT...

Following with the story..... They were alien autonomous robots that blended into society by "transforming" into automobiles....

I NEVER understood the "Dinobots"..... They were robots that transformed into dinosaurs.......

Even as a young child I wondered how on earth that big metallic dinosaurs were supposed to blend into society..

So.... Needless to say.... I think that hollywood is about to ruin what could have been a great sequel......

here's the link... read for yourself.

To explain the Dinobots. In the cartoon Spike and Wheeljack stumbled across the skeletal remains of dinosaurs (The Autobots' space craft crashed into the earth around the era of the dinosaurs) and inspired the two of them delved into the history of dinosaurs and decided to make new Autobots that would transform into dinosaurs thus the Dinobots were born.

From left to right: Snarl, Swoop (on top), Grimlock, Slag and Sludge.

In the comic however the Dinobots were the first Autobots to be awoken by the computer running Autobot Headquarters during the Dinosaur era and to make them blend in with the inhabitants of the earth, they were rebuilt looking like dinosaurs.

And a third theory, from the "Transformers Beastwars" series places the origine by a Decepticon who transformed into a raptor who traded sides after not agreeing with Megatron's way of doing. That former decepticon became an Autobot hero named Dinobot, so it's also possible that Wheeljack and Spike named the Dinobots after him.

Beastwars Dinobot.

The Dinobots were a kickass group in the comic books. Interesting to see how they're handled in the movies.

The only part of the Transformers movie I remember is Meghan Fox bending over a car engine.

That was, er, transformational.

Around the same time I saw the Transformers film, they showed the animated film from the 80's on television. I LOVED the Dinobots, they're so goofy, maybe I'm in a minority. =P

I can sympathize with you there. I too am an old Generation Transformer nut. I even have the 1986 movie where Prime dies.

The animated stuff was ok I guess but it was pretty goofy, especially where the Dinos were concerned. After the first couple of dozen issues the comic book became a pretty well written book. More recently Dreamwave comics produced a fantastic transformer book that was cut short by the company going bankrupt. The Dinobots illustration in the post above is from the Dreamwave line and it had some big Dinobot stories lined up before going under. Shame really.
