GC 20% Off One Item Coupon - 11/23/07

I got a 3 x 5 postcard from GC today and my wife almost threw it away .

20% off any one item from 8 to 10 AM on 11/23/07.

Look for this card in your mail. Holy Cow!

Music 123 had a 10% off any one item internet sale about 2 years ago. I carried a copy of the details into my local GC and got a new Hot Rod Deluxe for $540 total (no added taxes). The GC manager matched the 10%. This coupon could allow a guy to buy a Hot Rod deluxe for $480 .

I'm freaking out with greed. They've got me hook, line and sinker.

The two pickup Gibson Melody Makers are usually $400. I could score one for $320. I'm tempted. I'll be scrolling through there web catalog like a deer in headlights tonight.

It's a plain white gloss post card with black and red font. Don't toss it!

Are you sure it's for any item? Sometimes they specify (or exclude) certain brands in the fine print.

I'm so there, though

I got one of those cards today, too, and certain items were excluded - but surprisingly enough most of the good stuff seems to be included in the sale.

There are a couple of exclusions: Apple, Bose, Monseter Cable, Mesa/Boogie, Zildjian, Mogami, SSL, Digidesign and Euphonix. Also excludes used and vintage.

You don't need the card.....

I've contacted our store in Little Rock as I 've had my eyes on a Deluxe Reverb amp. 849.99 less 20% plus sales tax and it's a better deal than I can find anywhere on the net even with free shipping. I confirmed an in box amp untouched by local shredders

I am not going to be available to get to the store on the 23rd - they are allowing me to pick it up tomorrow.

Thing is...

...you can sometimes talk GC guy into giving you 20% off in the first place, especially if you shop on a normal weekday morning and do the "nah, I think I'm just gonna go home and think about it" walk away...

...still, this is how it's going to be in retail (and housing, AND automotive) this holiday season. Things are tough...

...ugh, my GC (San Marcos, CA) is in a strip mall with a Walmart and a Kohl's...I don't want to get up at 7 on Black Friday to drive there and do battle for parking with the local over-caffeinated soccer moms and their GMC Yukons...

...yet I can't stay away...

20% isn't going tempt me to get into that mess.

I just got the post card, and the cover image gave me the creeps. It isn't politically uncorrect, but something's wrong/tasteless about the ad concept.

Did everyone get the severed finger? (Maybe more acceptable for Halloween?)

Tdot, mebbe that's why I tossed mine, thinking about it.

Frank, I've been in the San Marcos store, I understand exactly what you're saying. One of the scariest GCs of all time. On Wednesday, even.

BTW, they had 2 Peavey Classic 50 2 x 12s in there new for $ 475 each the last time I was there. A set of JJs, 2 Weber Blue Dogs and you're in good stead.

BB, you're a li'l devil on ma shoulder! Wow, I'm doing the math...

...and about the graphic, took me a few minutes but...five fingers...less one...that's 5 x .80 = 20%! In a "Saw" kinda way...I can just see the agency creative directors high-fiving (fouring?) after that art meeting...

The postcard says "extra 20% off" and "this is in addition to our already discounted holiday pricing". If the "discount" in the "discounted holiday pricing" is just from MSRP to retail, then the coupon is really only an 11.25% discount for me - 20% less the 8.75% sales tax that I wouldn't pay online.

But if the "discount" in the "discounted holiday pricing" is from the ordinary retail price, then we've got something. I think some of us are hoping to go in and see a guitar or amp whose normal retail price is $800 discounted to $650, and then take an additional 20% off that.

You get 20% off the lowest sale price. I posted this in another thread but I went to my local GC Wednesday. I've been looking for a humbucker guitar with a bit more edge than my PRS SE. I found a Gibson SG Special that lists at $1058 and it was marked down to $579. I asked the sales guy if he would honor my coupon early and he deducted 20%.

I bought this new USA Gibson SG for $462 with the Gibson Gig Bag. The guitar looks like they just took it out of the factory box......

It's a great thing to take advantage of.

I suspect that will happen, in some cases.

I have seen (and taken advantage of) some remarkable prices at GC, on holidays. Matter of fact, that's why I own an AC30... and I'm kicking myself for NOT buying a Fender Stratocaster XII (12-string; I think that was $300, or a little more).

I suspect it's manager's discretion, because I've been known to go to TWO GC stores on a holiday, and the prices will be different.

So, I'm not really looking for anything specific right now, but I'm going to go just in case. Plus, I just like having coffee and a donut and walking around, looking at music stuff...

'65 DRRI Update!

I am not going to be available to get to the store on the 23rd - they are allowing me to pick it up tomorrow.

I go into the store to close the deal. Out pops the assistant manager with my new '65 DRRI in an unopened box and I'm already getting excited. As he rings the deal up, he gives me a total of $50 higher than I've calculated. I showed him how I came up with my number and he agreed my calculations were correct.

Somehow, as he pulled up the Promo on his computer, GC had applied a higher price on the DRRI for sale day only......

Long and short of it was he went with my number and the original store price as the basis for the 20% off.

After discount and sales tax, I paid $730.99......Quite a good deal IMHO....

Oh! I forgot...I'm not gonna go into the "creamy warm tube sound" thingy. Let's just say that it sounds a lot better that my Blues Junior.......

I also got a 20% off discount from Music123, for a past order backup. I figured that it saves me taxes and gas for a 200 miles round trip, on Black Friday.

I ordered a PRS SE Custom today. I already have a Tele, PRS Swamp Ash Special and an SE Soapbar II maple.

Thank dog that I already own all the gear I need or want!

But that's the only time it's fun to shop!

I used to get ALL of my Christmas shopping done early... THEN my roommate would drag me to the mall with him, because I already knew where all the stores and deals were. It was pure fun, because I could just enjoy the spectacle.

Telekinetic's bargain amp is cooler than my bargain SG guitar.

That amp at $720 is making me drool. Next year....new amp.....mmmmm?

When you consider that some of these items are price matched everywhere and the prices only go so low, 20% off is huge. Music 123 had a 10% off any one item sale on line about two years ago. I printed the special and took the info to Guitar Center. They sold me a new Hot Rod Deluxe amp for $540 - including tax. $600 less 10% = $540. I thought that $540 was a hell of a deal. Hot Rod Deluxes cost $600 everywhere...they really never sell cheaper when new.

This 20% deal would have given me the Hot Rod for $480. That's pretty cool.
