Gibson ROBOT GUITAR??

What the--?? Has anybody seen this?

http://www.gibson.com/robotguitar/

Check out the Videos section, they are hysterical. I'm not normally prone to stuff like this (gimme Esquires and Juniors), but this thing does look really cool.

That's the Tronical Powertune system that Gibson licensed. Looks promising.
For a few thousand dollars, you could equip your own guitar with the whole setup.

I know someone involved with it. It's a guitar with all the sensors, smarts and tuner drive motors to keep it perpetually in tune. Pretty cool concept for the active performer.

Err...

Now I don't want to interfere with the work ethics of Gibson but It's common knowledge that one should polish a guitar BEFORE it's completely assembled.

I doubt that Gibson wanted to publicize that fight

Wow. It looks like Gibson really stepped up to the plate on this one. The other auto-tuners I've seen out there are bigger, heavier, and more complicated. For example, TransPerformance: http://transperformance.com/index2.htm Someone at Gibson, really did there homework.

If you look at the gallery, you can see the servo-infused tuning keys, and I'm impressed at how micro they kept it (compared to other companies offerings).

Its almost hard for me to give Gibson a thumbs up on this one, cause ole Henry has been tickin me off the past few years (Henry: "Gibson is going to be the next Harley Davidson: A 'LifeStyle' company". Aughhh!). But then again, this is the only thing in the last few years that has impressed me out of the gibby factories. So in the macro picture (for me at least), not too impressive. In the micro, A big thumbs up.

Instead of an Electric Guitar, shouldn't this be called an Electronic Guitar?

oh, i thought it was a real robot guitar, which i have seen. My friends are actually building one. This thing just tunes robotically. I thought it was robotic like a player piano is.

Meh..

no fun.

All those videos and yet none showing the system working to tune the thing. Guitarist magazine over here gave the Tronical system a rather mixed response to put it nicely.

They could, but it will only correct pitch if it's "engaged" (tuning mode turned on)

I'm waiting for the Variax modeling system to be installed, then I'll be impressed. I'll also be struggling to lift it out of the case.
