1. Buck Owens - Carnegie Hall. This is what hooked me on Teles.

closely followed by Hag in Philadelphia.

They were such a different band, especially right after Mick Taylor joined, so bluesy and Keith's playing is spectacular, Mick Taylor brought out the best in him...the obvious benefit of bringing a virtuoso in the band opposite him.

Stray Cat Blues is the perfect example from this record....absolutely scathing blues rock with amazing twin guitar interplay.
I idolize this album. I want every ounce of me musically to match the pure ROCK this album oozes. If you do not own "Get yer Ya Ya's Out", GO GET IT, PERIOD. You will not be disappointed.

The remarkably low-fi but amazing when cranked Bo Diddley's Beach Party. It was recorded in Myrtle Beach SC in 1963.

Thanks to all you guys for reminding me of some of my favorite live albums and introducing me to many others that I have not heard.

When I started replacing vinyl with CDs I tried to get all the 'main' ones but missed out on Cheap Trick, Frampton, ABB, Kiss Alive(s), a couple of the Stones live albums, etc.

For some reason this thread also reminded me of an 8-track I once had called something like 'Big Sur Festival'.

Gotta go to half.com now...
Thanks all.

I used to love live albums...

Some of my faves have already been mentioned esp. Thin Lizzy's 'Live And Dangerous' .

I also enjoyed -

'Golden Years - EP' - Motorhead
'Under A Blood Red Sky' - U2
'Seconds Out' - Genesis
'LIVE! In The Air Age' - Be Bop Deluxe

In the days before remixes, live versions were the only alternative, and captured sounds you can only really achieve with lots of volume in a large space!

Great thread!

Howdy,

Let's see..
1. B.B. Live at the Regal
2. Buck Owens Carnegie Hall
3. The Beatles Live at the Star Club (Hamburg)
4. The Rolling Stones Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out.

The recordings by the Beatles and the 'Stones have influenced my playing more than any other. John's rhythm guitar on "Sweet Little Sixteen" along with his singing is the best second generation rock & roll I've ever heard.
Keef's tone and the band's overall sound on "Ya-Ya's" is to die for, esepcially the solo on "Little Queenie" (I feel like screaming "YES,YES" like Beavis and Butthead every time I hear this song!) and of course Keef's signature raunch on "Sympathy for the Devil" is the nastiest riff on vinyl! Killer stuff.
Now if ya'll will excuse me, I'm back to my Les Paul Special (P-90's, of course) plugged into my '68 Vibro Champ and my 'Stones CD's.

Just look at my avatar.

Greatest live album ever and what started me on my musical journey in the first place. (That and the film Monterey Pop.)

Get yer Ya Ya's Out was the first live album I ever bought. And I still smile at Jagger's comment "I think I lost a button off my trousers. You don't want my trousers to fall down now, do ya?"

And, of course, let's not forget "Charlie's good tonight, ain't he?"

Then there's Clapton's "Just One Night" album. His solo on Double Trouble' gives me shivers every time I hear it.

And Frampton Comes Alive is a bit of all right too.

And for something a bit different 'Fairport Convention Live" has some stunning jigs and reels played at breakneck speed.

And, last but not least, SRV tribute dvd when Buddy Guy holds one note for what seems like a couple of minutes - no vibrato to keep it going, just pure sustain. Amazing.............

Charlie's nearly always good....

old thread this one. How'd I miss it before??

Ya ya's-------------- rock'n'roll as she should be spoke.
Live and Dangerous-- Phil Lynott was one underrated frontman I reckon.

One for the "asides" thread.

Lots of my favourites already mentioned. Ya ya's was the first live album I bought as a teen. I'd just like to mention the rather obscure but very excellent "801 Live". Check it out if you can. Great musicians like Phil Manzanera, Francis Monkman, Brian Eno, Simon Phillips and Lloyd Watson coming together to jam like it was goin out of style. Still the best version of Tomorrow Never Knows I've heard.
