The movie "Blow Up", has a great piece of the Yardbirds, with Beck AND Page together on the stage, playing an alternate version of "Train Kept A Rollin'", called "Stollin' On". Movie is from 1967 or 1968

Hello there,
One of my favorite films ever: Honky Tonk Man (1982), directed by Clint Eastwood (who also plays the main character). I’ve read somewhere in an interview that Clint Eastwood partly got his inspiration from Hank Williams.
Anyway, it's great story about the life of a man dedicated to his music, trying to make it at the Grand Ole Opry, back in the ‘30s. Humour, feelings, good music. And Marty Robbins, Ray Price, as well as Merle Travis appears (shortly) on the screen, too!

Singles isn't really about a band, but it does have a lot of great performance footage and cameos by grunge bands and their members.

There's a film called The Festival Express, shot on a train as it crossed Canada in 1970..on board were the following groups:

The Band, Delaney & Bonnie & Friends ; Flying Burrito Brothers ; Grateful Dead ; Buddy Guy Blues Band ; Ian & Sylvia & the Great Speckled Bird ; Janis Joplin ; Mashmakhan ; Sha Na Na.

Yeah, thats a good one, I believe either Independent Film or Sundance Channel has been playing that one a lot lately. One of my favorite parts is when Buddy Guy is playing and he takes the forklift to get down from the stage to play on the audience's level, cause I just get a kick out of watching the roadie helping him move his cord around. I'm easily entertained I guess...

Yeah, that's a good one! I have it on VHS. A lame movie with a bunch of great performers lip-synching their hearts out. My personal fave is Judy Henske trying to keep a straight face amidst some really gruesome choreography à la Carmen Ghia.

One I like to mention is an a Irish movie named

Still Crazy

It is about a fictional 70's rock band named Strange Fruit that reunites for a reunion tour.

That description doesn't do it justice or sound very interesting but it is worth seeing.

I rented in VHS one night when I wanted to watch a movie.

Jimmy Nail was one of the actors whom I'd seen in a number of English shows.


He starred in a BBC mini series named Crocodile Shoes where he played an out of work lathe operator and starts a career in Country Music.

He starts of in Northern England and moves to Nashville.

I believe he played a Tele Thinline.

The Commitments

They did a great job on 60's R&B.

Destination Anywwhere sung by Niamh Kavanagh was my favorite on the CD.

She sang 2 songs on the CD but I don't think she was in the movie.

There is a band touring as the Commitments but I don't believe any were in the movie.

Two of 'em were - Derek "The Meatman" Scully (Kenneth McCluskey), who played bass in the movie but plays guitar in the band now, and Billy "The Animal" Mooney (Dick Massey) on drums (you may remember his mic-checking technique - banging it on his forehead).

I think there were a couple more for a while that have since moved on to other things.

"Still Crazy" was brilliant and very funny indeed. Timothy Spall and Bill Nighy were in it too, and I think Ian Bannen as well. AFAIK it was a British production, not Irish.

I used to work in the early 80s with a guy called Johnny Sylvan, great singer and bit-part actor (sadly no longer with us). We had a regular Monday night gig at the Beaumont Arms in Shepherd's Bush, West London, close to the BBC TV Centre. One night a buddy of Johnny's was in there, another bit-part actor, big ugly bloke with a Geordie accent. He was quite excited as he'd just had an audition at the BBC for a new comedy-drama show about British construction workers in Germany. He thought it had gone well... I'll say it had - the show was "Auf Wiedersehen, Pet", the ugly guy was of course the talented Jimmy Nail and the show made him a big star.

Okay, has no one mentioned Airheads? BRILLIANT comedy featuring Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi, and Adam Sandler as metalhead doofuses holding a radio station hostage until their demo gets played on air. Fraser's character has a beautiful monologue/rant about life as a band in the trenches playing "for an audience consisting of the other bands and their girlfriends!" Genius. Great soundtrack, too.

is my favorite. If you've not seen it, it is a pretty fun little movie... you'll go write some songs after you see it.

my favorite scene is when Jerry, Janis, tom Rush and Rick Danke are tripping their brains out singing some silly song about "no more 'cain on the train...." Danko is laughing his butt off and is CLEARY the instigator of this psychedelic sing-along!

That Thing You Do .....It's one of those movies that I can't stop watching. Good story. Recording the demo 45 LP in the church is classic.

A Mighty Wind is one of my all time favorites.

Walk the Line is another movie that I cannot walk away from. I've seen Walk the Line about 50 times if you add up all the separate chunks that I've caught on HBO.

The Sam Phillips audition is fantastic.......

Wow, that's a lot of movies. I'll check out the ones I haven't seen before.

There's an Australian film called 'Garage Days.' It's about this band who do gigs in a local pub, wanted to play in this really big concert, chased a promoter, went through a lot of stuff before finally nailing a spot. Really funny film, sort of like 'Still Crazy' but younger version.
