Goin To See Vai
An old friend contacted me and offered me an extra ticket he had to a Steve Vai concert in Buffalo Ny the 24th. Haven't been into SV in years but I jumped at the chance because a.) I haven't been to a concert in a long time b.) I think he's a phenominal guitarist (even if I don't care for all his music). c.)I'm bored
Haven't seen him since he was with DLR. He was amazing when I did see him. Wondering what his shows are like these days. Anybody have any info on his shows of lately? martini

I'm not much familiar with Steve Vai these days, but a very good friend of ours is his solo opener. Zack Wiesinger is an amazing young man from Pittsburgh who has opened for Steve Vai on his entire tour this year. Hang on...

I like Vai's playing, though he can be a little too mechanical for my liking, though it isn't a major criticism, IMO much of it comes from the fact that he's such a tight player (after all he practices an insane amount).
But certainly an incredibly talented guitarist! |

I saw him a year or 2 back when he was with Tony McAlpine and Billy Sheehan. It's not my sort of music either, but it was an incredible show. I knew a few of the songs from DVDs and I could tell that although they were very tight they also improvised alot...and responded to each other's improvising at a stunning level of musicianship.
I'm glad I went. |

I think Steve is just awesome. He's worked very hard to get to the level he is at, plays what he enjoys, and doesn't seem to have an ego. And he raises bees and produces honey. Here he is creating a song in ProTools. I was lucky enough to see him last year with Zappa Plays Zappa.

steve vai
Hope you have fun, I'm going the 25th in NYC. His band is the same drummer and 2nd guitarist as the mcalpine band, Jeremy Coulson, and Dave Weiner respectively, both great players, and he also has like 2 violinists in the band His latest release is him with orchestra, and also a second disc of the orchestra playing his compositions. Great player, lot's of "stunt guitar" but just a s much deep down soulful, brilliant playing. The man is a master of the electric guitar.
