It's been a while since I've used the Schaller ones. I switched over to the Dunlop style but my method should work with both. I've ordered a set of these to try. They look kinda cool. http://http://grotro.com/NuartiststrapMain.html

If you can live with the plain-ness, Dunlop Cliplok straps are great. They're really comfy, that the end bits stay attatched to the guitar. You clip and unclip the strap with buckles like you see on bookbags. I've had one for a few years now. It still looks good, is as comfortable as ever, and has never come unattatched unless I've purposely unclipped it or unscrewed the end bits off the guitar.

If you have a hammer, a vise (mainly the anvil part) or a piece of plate metal and a small piece of metal tube (threaded nipples for lamps work pretty well)...just lay the strap end on the anvil (finished face up), align the tube with the current hole and give her a good whack...not exactly professional leather crafting, but it does work and makes a nice clean (and enlarged) hole...
Just did this to a tweed strap with leather ends I picked up for my Tele. All that said, those Dunlop straps mentioned above are nice and work well in lieu of strap locks. I have a pre-Dunlop clip-lock strap as well, the only down side is the tails left on your git might keep it from fitting in your case (depending on case style).

Buy yourself a tapered reamer. That's what I use on mine. You can get a cheap one from here:
http://www.hobbytool.com/index.asp?P...PROD&ProdID=28 Plus it can be used to ream out pegheads for a good tuner fit!
