I voted "yes" because they're only 9 games out right now of 1st place.

I'm afraid I'm not a Major League Baseball fan. I follow the Orioles...
And while I'm at it, I would like to pass on my congratulations to all the Phillies fans out there on the occasion of the team's 10,000th loss, the only professional sports team to reach such a milestone...

I hope they don't. I root for the O's as well (not that I've had anything to cheer about lately)

No, they will not make the playoffs. Yes, that will make me happy.

And the Red Sox have a majority of their remaining games against teams that were under .500 at the All Star break.

In The AL East it's gonna be Boston and Toronto.
The Blue Jays are a great Team that split with The Nation this past weekend
at Fenway.
Regarding the petition; there are currently 779,236 signatures to change the name of The State to "Mannychusetts" with 14 Cities left to go.

Although the (Damn) Yankees are usually a force to be reckoned with, this year so far they appear not to have the juice. I don't think they'll make it.

Which is a shame, because it would be so much fun to watch the Red Sox crush them in post-season play.

("Mannychusetts!" BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA....)

Thank you, the fans of the Phil's will take anything we can get right now. Even bad press is good.

the next 14 days............

I think the next 2 weeks are going to be pivotal for The Yanks and the AL East. Yanks have 15 games in 14 consecutive days and open the first 4 against the Jays - then have TB, KC, and the O's.Yanks are going to have to play way over their heads and have to come out of the next 14 days with 11-12 wins just to stay in contention. Yanks have 3 real hot bats right now with Abreau, Godzilla, and Phillips but really need for A-Rod, Jeter, and Damon to catch fire. Short of a Sox meltdown, The Yanks have a tough road in front of them. Of course it would always help if we had some kind of pitching staff.

I don't think they will make it.............great players, but it may be too late.
....The Yankees have what I call "professionally-assembled chemistry", where players are chosen mainly because of their past numbers, not because they would be a good fit for the team on the field or in the clubhouse.

In fairness to the Phillies, how many other pro sports teams have been around as long as the Phillies, and play nearly as many games in a season as a major league baseball team does? The only real "competition" is from other old school baseball franchises.

As far the Yankees go, I think they are too far behind the Red Sox to catch them, and they are almost as far behind for the wild card. But if they run off a couple of big winning streaks, you never know. It only took a half a season for the Sox and the Indians to get that far ahead of them, why couldn't a team make that back up in a half a season?

I'm pretty happy with what the CUBS are doing right now. Been a life-long Cubs fan.

I didn't vote because I don't care about the Yankees at all.

Man, ya gotta vote! :-P

I think they'll make it because A-Rod's liable to get hot any day now and The Rocket is getting better and better every game out. Jeter and Posada will continue to stay solid and Cano should start playing like he's capable of.

They haven't been the same team since the lost to the D Backs...and went on that spending spree starting with Giambi. They need to get back the old formula where team chemistry mattered and not a collection of All Stars. Until then...they'll be wasting alot of money. (from a lifelong Yankee fan born and raised in NY).

I think they'll still wangle thier way into the playoffs. I thought they'd be caught up by now but they went into that inexplicable losing streak where everything went bad that could've went bad. They're a pretty hard team to figure out so far this year.

Too little too late. Can't say I'm disappointed...

The Skankees will not make it. Boston's tough. The Central is where the action's at. Cleveland and Detroilet are neck and neck; the Twins are 5 straight and are hot!
I was at the Twins last night and ran into Juan Berengeur aka "Senor Smoke". He was getting an adult beverage. I talked a bit with him and he just put his hand in his pockets and settled in for a friendly conversation. I introduced my kids to MISTER Juan Berengeur. They were awed and he was humble. I explained that he was instrumental in our '87 series win. He then looked at my kids and said excitedly "Hey kids, wanna see my World Series rings"?
Totally cool guy.

Go Twins!

The Yankees are full of talented, expensive star players, but that does not make for a great team. The press and fans in NY make it tough to enjoy a "normal" baseball season. Too bad, but it's time for a reality check in the Bronx. The pinstripes will not be in the playoffs in 2007!
Go BoSox.

I just can't see the Yanks making it to the post season. They're one game over .500 and would have to play .667 ball throughout the rest of the year. I just don't see that happening.

There is still alot of games left to be played but I don't think that they will make it. Boston has the pitching to get them through and the wild card will come from the A.L. central. So the yankees will be golfing in october. A completely objective opinion by a card carrying member of The Red Sox Nation!

Joe Torre is going to have light a fire under some of the players that aren't playing to well butts in order to get them to player better. Otherwise they aren't going to be in the playoffs at all.

Yes they probably will....

....and that will irk me to no end.

Then I'll just have to pull for them to get beat down by someone in the post-season, hopefully by some newer team with no fan base and a $50 million payroll.

You can probably tell I detest the NY Yankees.

Listen....It will be THREE DECADES before The NY Yankees are in The World Series. The Red Sox aren't even using their full complete Pitching Staff.
But last night Gabbard through a complete game shutout and is now 3-0 since arriving from Pawtucket.
Bottom line The Yankees tore their own heart out when they forced Bernie Williams into retirement. That was DUMB - actually ignorant is more to the point. I guess The Yankee Brass forgot what the function of GLUE is...

What does 30 years have to do with the current Sox pitching?

Both sides were stubborn from what I've heard/read. Bernie didn't want to attend camp without a guarantee as I recall. And he plays a mean guitar!

Hmm no trashing A-Rod?!?

Of course the Yanks will make the playoffs.

No cause for alarm. They've come back from bigger deficits. As crappy as the Yanks are playing so far they they still own the Sox, what is it, 4 games to 2? I say the Yanks pick up six games between now and the end of August, at which point they sweep 3 games with the Sox in the House That Ruth Built and take first place. That's what usually happens........

Actually, 7-5 in favor of the Red Sox.
Sox are in front for good.

I think they have 4 games left with the Bosox so they could win the season series for a tiebreaker. I'll have to look at the schedule.

They have 3 games in August and 3 games in September. The Yanks have a bunch of games against KC and Baltimore.

Of course they'll make it. The only team they have to get past is the Red Sox and they're barely playing 500 ball over their last 20 games or so. Plus the Sox always, always fold in the fall.

The Yankees will have to stop hovering around or under .500 for the season to catch the Sox

Seems to me, I recall a certain team (who wears pinstrips) folding pretty freaking big one fall a few years ago. They were up something like, what?, 3 games to NONE?

Correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't that the ONLY time in professional sports history that a team blew a 3-0 lead?

And by the way, if the Sox simply play .500 ball the rest of the season, the yankees have a pretty daunting task ahead of them...

GOooooooooo SOX! SCREW dem yankees!!!
