Yankee hatin' still alive and well...
......have no fear!
The good thing about yankee hatin', is anything less than a world series championship for the stankees is a victory for all that is good & right in the world!

"Real " Red Sox fans never counted the Yanks out. We knew they would come around. They will cool off eventually, but they are playing great now. We'll see how it goes!

Gagne is freaking killing me. I cannot believe that the Sox gave up Kason Gabbard for this guy. Young left handed starting pitching for... I didn't like this deal when it went down and I think that Theo should be feeling the same thing right about now. They would have been better off putting Gabbard in the bullpen.

correction :)
after todays games, Yanks are now only 4 back - same lead the Sox had as of May 1st
But seriously, no real Yankee fan is counting the Sox out either - the series in August should inject quite a bit of interest and excitement in the AL east race - Yankees- Red Sox series in August = is good for all of baseball ! |

Papi needs about 3 weeks off. We saw him play last week against the Angels and he is clearly in pain. When it gets hot temperature wise, guys like Giambi will start to hit... kinda like the way Don Baylor used to get hot in July, August and Sept.
If the Sox are smart they'll put Ortiz on the DL and let him get some rest and some serious treatment... without him... well, they are ordinary. |

Not only that, but they gave up Gabbard for a guy who is just a rental. Gagne won't be here next year regardless of how he plays. Although I wouldn't have made this trade, I would have given up Lester before Gabbard. |

You are probably right on both accounts, but I think you saw Gabbard as good as he will ever be. I'm not sure why they thought they needed someone to spell Okajima. Maybe they plan on Pappelbon going back to the starting rotation next year as Schilling and or Wakefield's replacement.

That's what it seems to be the Schilling and Wakefield are going to be free agents at the end of the season. Since will probably get back Brandon O'Donnelly and Matt Clement for next year off of the DL.
The have DiceK, Beckett, O'Donnelly, Clement, and Papelbon. Mike Timlin was there closer before Papelbon came along and took over after Timlin was injuried. Now unless the Red Sox Sign Eric Gagne to a contract at the end of the season or during the off season.

Here they come!!
Yanks only four games out and tied for the playoff spot. They've been playing astonishing baseball since the All-Star break with a 23-8 record. They were considered dead when they were 14 1/2 games back and playing under 500 ball. The Red Sox, unfortunately (for them), made a bad buy in Gagne, and Dice K is more like No-Dice K. Loads of strikeouts, but gives up loads of runs, and he's not getting the hitting behind him. Gonna be another long winter for the BoSox. Do I feel bad? No.

1. Brendan Donnelly is out for the season with elbow surgery.
2. Daisuke's era is dropping with every start and is at a respectable 3.59. It is the walks that are getting him in trouble, but he does get himself out of it. In his last two starts he gotten 4 and 5 runs scored for him, however in his previous 12 starts he has gotten 2 or fewer runs in 10 of them. He left the game with a 5-1 lead on friday. 13-8 not bad considering. |

I'm in my 50's and I'm in at least THREE TIMES better physical condition than this Gagne fella. I seriously doubt if he could run a respectable mile time for a man his age; looks like he spends all his free time at Burger King. This wasn't quite Theo's deal but Theo had to give the deal his blessing so he is ultimately responsible for this catastophic F.U. this was the brainchile of an underling that Tina Cervasio interviewed last week - was it some guy name Halloran??? I dunno but whatever his name was it's a moot point. What really upsets me across the boards is how many INBRED IMBECILES are allowed to call "the shots" when there are millions and in the cases of corporations billions of dollars involved. Look at Chrysler and what's about to happen to them. These are NOT wise men making the crucial decisions. Up here we're already referring to him as "Gag-me".

It's funny to me to see the Sox make the same kind of decision the Yankees have made in the past. Sox management must have felt they were one guy away from taking it all this year, and they still could. Giving up a good starter for a 2 or 3 month rental has always seemed a bad choice and I have always found that to be a frustrating tactic by the Yanks. Gagne has always been a good pitcher and perhaps he needs time to settle in. Frankly, I'm surprised he's doing so poorly for the Sox. I saw him as a very good move for the playoffs. You need a strong bullpen in the playoffs, and having 2 closer types in the pen can only help on consecutive days if games are close IMHO. Joba may be able to fill that role for the Yanks.

Chamberlain
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's going to be our best secret weapon ! Big corn fed Nebraska kid who's built more like an outside linebacker than a pitcher. The kid is only 21, was a 1st round pick in '06 and has blazed his way through the minors this year. Consistently throws in the high 90's and is a strikeout machine. Yanks are giving him one days rest for every inning he pitches in relief so as not to blow out this kids arm. Yanks are using him right now as a set up guy but the plan for him is to be a starter and a regular in the rotation as early as next season. If he stays healthy and the Yanks don't burn out his arm, I'm sure he'll be a pitcher that everyone will be talking about in the near future.

If you're not from New York, rooting for the Yankees is like going to the blackjack table and rooting for the dealer.

Gagne strikes again! He has as many blown saves in two weeks as Papelbon and Okijima have through the entire season. Francona really needs to think twice before using this guy in a save situation because he is absolutely horrible. Not that a four run lead is safe, either.

Wanna know why Tito will keep goin' to Gagne?
Quote:
So now he's gonna give it right back to Theo and his "crack staff" and put him out there every chance he gets. Gagne is a STIFF,period. I'd be so much more comfortable with either Timlin or Tavares in that situation it isn't funny. I am glad that they FINALLY came to the long foregone conclusion that one Willy Mo Pena also has terminal rigamortis. They gave away "The Wrong Pena"!!!!!! Anyone see what Carlos is doing for Tampa Bay? It's gotta make one think what these front office geniuses are thinkin' or actually are they capable of a rational thought process? J.D.Drew another "BARGAIN"; we coulda kept Kevin Millar and 20 Million Dollars too......AND....Trot Nixon for less than HALF THE MONEY we shelled out for J.D. "Blue Chip". But "Gag-me"; when I saw him getting "warmed up" in the bullpen I switched channels and watched Little Anthony & The Imperials on PBS' "Doowop Special"; Little Anthony's like 77 years old and at least he can still deliver... Unlike Burger King Boy

The Red Sox are still the best team in Baseball. They have a solid 6.5 game lead with 32 games to go and are starting to play their best baseball of the year. They will have their 3 top pitchers going against the Yanks this weekend. Things are looking good!!

The Samaritans better call in extra operators! "start spreading the news they're gonna get swept the biggest payroll in Baseball is completely inept..." Now it's.....
Quote:
Unlikely the Stanks can make up 7-1/2 in 32 games (though not impossible), but still worried about them getting in the playoffs. In this day and age, you just got to get in, anything's possible then (see: St Louis Cardinals, last year). -Eric

going back to the original question.....
I still think the Yanks will make the playoffs - with 32 games remaining as of this morning, I'm not ready to start waving the white flag yet - The Yanks fate is their own hands from here on out and they can't rely on help from other teams and it looks like Theo's kids are holding together for now and haven't experienced any major implosions yet. Of those 32 games, 6 are against Sox, 3 against Seattle, and 7 against the Jays. Toronto could be the big spoiler in September. Additionally, the Yanks face Baltimore 6 more times and the Birds have the Yanks number this year.Rounding out the final games are 6 against Tampa Bay, 3 versus KC, and tonights game against the Tigers. What's very interesting this year, as we head into the final month of the season, is that almost every division is up for grabs, both in the National and American Leagues. I don't recall having all these tight races in every division so late in the season in recent years. If the Sox sweep, or win 2 out of 3 from the Yanks this week, then the Yanks are toast. If the Yanks can pull off a sweep, sit back and watch because it's gonna be a hell of a September for all baseball fans.

Nope, they ain't going to The Playoffs.
It's that simple. Saturday is September 1st - the traditional beginning of "A-Rod's Flop". FWIW, Julian Tavares is really "on" right now; and when Tavares is cooking Boston Wins.

What would Baseball be without the Yanks and Sox? I'm really enjoying the series," The Bronx is Burning." Very well done!!!!

It is my belief -sincerely, that Ichiro will bring The Mariners to The Promised Land. Ichiro without question is one of the greatest ballplayers any of us will ever see. I don't know if this will be Seattle's year but after all is said and done Baseball will not owe us a thing for 2007. What an AMAZING RIDE!!!!! I'll be bummed when it's over. The stories this season are incredible!!!! Dmitri Young, John Lester, Kevin Millar's "walkoff" against Boston was incredible how can any citizen of Red Sox Nation not be happy for Millar... Julian Tavares becoming a folk hero for his gutsy pitching against "The Iron" in The League - remember The Twins - he outpitched Santana totally and that was only the beginning it seemed like every Start he took was against a Cy Young Award Winner/contender. Clemens' return and The Yankee resurgence, Tim Wakefield's return to Elite Status, the first inside the park Home Run in the history of The All Star Game by who else - Ichiro, Barry Bonds regardless of the hatred and accusations rising to the occasion, and A-Rod - hate him though I may, a perfect fit finally in New York. This Season 2007 has so far been one of the greatest I've ever witnessed. "and down the stretch they come!" People will be talking about 2007 for a long time. "Baseball is the only true game." Babe Ruth
