Francona says that Manny Ramirez has to "clear himself" before he returns to the lineup. They don't make 'em like Kirk Gibson anymore.

I have this sense of impending doom. Francona is an idiot. Its looking like Manny quit on them again this year. Gagme is going to end up costing them the division.

Well, at least I have football season.

p.s. bosox fans, manny ramirez had essentially NOTHING to do with the red sox this year, in comparison to previous seasons....

The Red Sox have a lot talent. (Huge Pitching, and great defense). The biggest thing going against the red sox is "Stan" and the rest of the saddened Red Sox Nation.... I thing everyone should pray for a post season yanks-red sox meeting, because it makes for great baseball!! otherwise we'll all be watching the Mets choke again.

keep your chin(s) up guys!

I'll take it as a compliment genny age 21.
You don't mind if I refer to Ya as "genny age 21" I hope?

FranCOMA...I just had an "Elijah-like Revelation".
I saw and I see what Terry's doing.
The Red Sox don't care about "The Division".
"The Division" that crap is for LOSERS.
The Celtics NEVER hung "Divisional Flags".
Only Championships.
Tito's stokin' the boiler.
While The Yankees are blowin' their load on "The Division".
It's frikkin' GENIUS!!!!!!
GREAT SCOTT!!!!!!!

He almost got me.
Terry Francona's THE Master and Commander.

In two weeks Red Sox Nation is going to be like a bunch of Wild Commanches.
And regardless of the scorn I saw it ALL on September The 19th 2007.
I know now how it's gonna go down and so do You.

Tito, I bow to Your Genius.
...and er genny age 21, I'll let mrsstantheman in on "the biggest thing"

The RedSux are history. They might as well concede and stay home during the playoffs.

Stan, you're drinking the sports radio coolaid for sure, thats what they were spewing all day today:

"forget the division, thats the short view, you're gonna get in the playoffs, so just rest guys up, set up your playoff rotation, 5 innings max for them in any games left, take the long view. We can lose the division and still win the series as a wildcard, like in 2004."

I'm not buying that garbage. Thats the talk of losers. Win the division fer cripes sake, get home field advantage and the psych. advantage that brings, F the Yankees. F Manny the slacker.

Guit, I was EXACTLY where You're standing a week ago and I can't get Sports Talk up here because of The Mountains (Man Guit, I remember all those great times listening to Eddie,Marc, and Jim on WHDH when I lived down in "The Flat". Those three were THE BEST!!!!).

Like that insurance company; "We're in good hands with Tito."
He almost had me convinced.
Hey...I was so furious that I spawned "FranCOMA".
It all hit me FAST.
I saw it Guit.

It would be a disaster if the Sox do not win the division. There would absolutely no momentum going into the playoffs, not to mention what a let down it would be to blow a 14 1/2 game lead. I still think that they will win the A.L. East, but the idea that Francona doesn't want to win the division is absurd.

The whole Manny being Manny has run its course, he can take 50-100 swings of batting practice but can't take a couple as a pinch hitter... I have always liked having Manny in Boston but enough is enough. And even worse when Manny does feel like coming back it is Ellsbury and not Drew who is going to get benched.

Daisuke Masuzaka and Tim Wakefield next starts have been pushed back and the Sox are going with Clay Bucholtz tonight, they should have done this two weeks ago. There are plenty of good arms in the bullpen so now is the time to put Gagne on ice. He seemed to have straightened out his problems, but no way would I use him now.

Sure, I want the Sox to win the World Series, but just winning the division from the Yankees is worth a lot, despite what happens afterwards. I know that sounds short sighted, and it is, but damn, I can't help it, this rivalry does strange things to you

One thing for sure, if we meet them in the playoffs, it will be exciting as hell, win or lose. They are on a roll right now, we're slumping. Once the season is over, as they say, it's a whole new ballgame.

1-1/2....but I've got The Faith.
Any other Team and I'd say "meltdown".
Not The Red Sox.
Manny's wearin' the "short-order cook doo rag" because he's coming back as a Blonde, after all Blondes have more fun.

So they lost again tonight and they'll probably lose Friday night too.
Youkalis has been banged up since before The Break, I can't think of anyone except Don Baylor who's been hit more in a single Season.
Coco's back makes him day-to-day, Okajima's been par-boiled.
Brendon Donnelly's shelved for The Season.
They're a very banged-up beaten-up Team.

The Real Season starts in 10 Games.
Quit counting Them out and show a little Faith.

They've been down MUCH WORSE than this.
Remember?

Remember all those times The Hulkster was in "the submission hold" and all the little Hulkamaniacs thought The Hulkster was toast?...
And then "the thumb'd go up"!
David Ortiz remembers
Manny Ramirez remembers
stantheman remembers
Mariano Rivera remembers
Brian Cashman wishes he didn't remember

Remember when there was a distinction between "Sports and Sports Entertainment"?

One and a half

One and a half - The Sox have fallen and can't get up ! Forget about the '64 Phillies and the '78 Red Sox, this is shaping up to be the biggest meltdown in baseball history ! Another Boston Massacre ! Maybe it's time to start a new thread - "Will the Red Sox make the playoffs?" - heck, the rate they're going now, they wouldn't have even made it to Williamsport. Good thing the Yanks and Sox both have Thursday off so the Sox won't lose any more ground on Thursday
Theo better brush up on his technique with The Heimlich Maneuver !

I like the Yankees schedule in the final week comapred to Boston's... Too bad Detroit dropped off in the Wild Card hunt...It would have been very cool to see the Red Sox fade from the season completely....HEE!!! can't wait!!! but keeping fingers crossed!

With the wild card this late season slump is not that bad because the samething happened to Detroit last year and no one calls that a historic collapse. However no team wants to be struggling as the post season approaches. If the Sox want to win the A.L. east the pressure is on, magic number is 9 with 9 games left to play, as I see it they need to win 6 maybe 7 of them in order to clinch. If Manny and Youkalis can come back healthy on friday they can do it. Then again as Stan said and everybody knows all you have to do is make it to the playoffs. That said I do think that if the Sox don't win the east it will be a major disappointment to them and the fans. I am frustrated watching but with the wild card I am not worried.

"Kafee tawk" is a reference to a SNL skit from the 90's where In the sketch, Mike Myers plays a stereotypical Jewish middle-aged woman with an exaggerated New York Jewish accent named Linda Richman.

Chet seems to be from "the Jersey shore" so you should maybe rethink you're whole angle on that. (yuze guyz or something maybe?)

AROD:

in september::

September
.333 .419 .730 OPS = 1.149

Stan, I don't know how you somehow type amidst all the alcohol and pain killers but you did mention "Hulk Hogan" recently, and that sir, makes you AWESOME!!

I have detected subliminal signs of

MANNY ENVY not only by New York Fans but also by the Yankees themselves - in particular Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter.
I can understand the fans because they have those awful lives being supporters of The Best team Money Can Buy.
Whereas Manny plays for The Best TEAM.

MANNY ENVY; sad sad sad

Actually, Stan you are the Man! You were right I am no longer sweating the division race. If the Sox win it cool, if not so what, just be ready for the post season. I was wrong for getting sucked into the whole rivalry thing and it was causing me to only half of the picture. Francona left Gagne in the game the other night as a test to see Gagne had really turned things around. I too now see the entire picture. I cannot believe that it took me a week to figure it out.

Can't believe my esteemed brethren in the The Red Sox Nation are buying into the "Francona is a genius, he's preparing for the playoffs and not concerned with the AL East title, and that's why we're losing" crap. Guess Willie Randolph and The Mets are currently employing that same strategy too . Last I looked the Sox haven't clinched anything yet. Baseball Tips of the Week for Francona : Players get to rest after you clinch a playoff spot. You test your relief pitcher in the bullpen, not during game situations while still in a race for a playoff spot.

Winning your division is no longer the moral imperative that it used to be. The priority is getting to the post season and being in the best possible postion to win and not beating the yankees in the regular season standings. If you concentrate solely on beating the yankees you are missing the point. Stan and I have simply stopped buying into the hype of the rivalry and have instead changed our focus to the most important thing which is winning the World Series. It doesn't count unless The Sox go through N.Y. kind of thinking was b.s. in 2004 and it is b.s. now. It is the end of october, not september, that counts. You guys can have the A.L. East, we'll take the World Series, sounds fair to me.

I don't listen to the radio, much less sports talk radio.

Chetnik, were You invited or Playing at Gabrielle and Tony's Wedding on October 6th? It's on The Jersey Shore. Supposedly I can't go because of a B.S. "commitment" to my job....right.
Everyone know how I feel about my job yet?

I might keep it on The Radio tonight, it's REALLY HOT up here again.
